I searched and was unable to find a thread that has a picture how-to on changing the transmission fluid/filter/gaskets. I also want to change the fluid in my torque converter and would like a step-by-step pictures based how to on that as well. Anyone know of any good resources/sites for this?

The transmission change is easy. You just get under there and simply take the bolts out of the pan. Take them out evenly and drop the pan evenly. Don't pull it harder on one side than the other. My friend warped his pan like that and it leaked fluid. The fluid simply pulls right out of where it sits. Usually there is an o-ring that seals them in there. Simply replace it by pushing the new one back inside. Then clean the gasket surface with some brakekleen on a rag, and use a razor blade if the old gasket material is still being stubborn. You want the surface as clean as can be. Then lay the new gasket on the pan, and reinstall the pan. Tighten bolts cross pattern like a 5 lug wheel. Check torque specs on them. They won't be too much.

There is a ruber plug on the bottom of the bell housing that you can remove. You will have to take the inspection plate off as well, and turn the motor over by the flywheel. You should see a bolt on somewhere on the edge of the torque converter that you can take out. This is what drain the converter.

Thanks - how about refilling the trans/torque converter? Where do I put the fluid back in to? I think I'll head up to the auto shop and look for a manual.

I think your car (as mine does) has a reusable gasket. When you got everything back together, you refill via the dip stick tube. Assess how much oil you drained and add less than this amount slowly. Turn on the engine and follow the procedure on the owners manual to check trans fluid level this will get the oil flowing and filling the converter again. Turn engine off, check level and top it up. You would like to repeat it again to check again. I have done this on the '00 GT and a '01 Grand Cherokee.

I followed those instructions under flushing tranny fluid TCCoA Tech Articles

Since i have a B&M cooler, i used it instead of the OEM rad to flush most of the oil.

The rest went smooth without any oil shower

As for the filter, just gently pull on it, it will come out.

Have fun
