Is it at all possible to swap a Ford Lightning 2WD tranny out with a 4WD Tranny? I want one badly, but live up here in NY, and 2WD wouldn't go to well here in the winter...I know I should prolly just get one for a summer ride, but I just thought I'd ask if there is a way to convert one to 4WD. With 390+HP, I'm not sure what transmission could even handel it.

It would require much more than just a transmission. A much more realistic alternative would be to swap a Lightning engine into an F150 4x4 or just supercharge a stock one to begin with. Since I assume that you're not going to be doing the work yourself, either alternative will require large amounts of cash to do. I'd suggest going with your "summer ride" option.

+1. Frames are different, you would need a T-case, driveshafts, axle shafts, front pig....wow what a nightmare.

Get your 4x4 and throw a Kennebell on it.

at Kennebell.net they have a kit called the Lighting Killer......I think it goes for around $4,900 or so....

3 or 4 years ago one of the 4x4 mags looked into doing the same thing. They quickly figured out it was cheaper and easier to drop a Lightning engine into an existing 4x4 than it was to create a 4x4 from a Lighting.

The transfer case and crossmembers are the easy part. The hard part is swapping in the entire front end assembly. Plus you'd be cutting up that nice lightning's floorpans to make way for the transfer case lever. Arrgh
As was suggested, drop a blower on a 4x4 F150, or better yet, get a super duty with a diesel and crank it up. Diesels are awesome.

Edit: Oops, this is one old thread. heh
