I was just wondering, i'm putting a newer 50L motor (from a 91 gt mustang) and i'm going too keep my Toploader tranny, The bellhousing is a 6bolot unit (the cars a 66 coupe also). I was wondering will a newer 10.5" style clutch work with this setup? Thanks for any info, i'm sure this is probly a silly question, but i wasn't for sure and wanted too ask first.

I'm doing the same thing right now with a roller engine I bought new when I had my '89 GT. I'm using a '65-73 McLeod scattershield, 157 tooth flywheel, and a 10.5" 3-finger clutch.

If you already have the old 50 oz. flywheel, then you also have the pressure plate alignment dowels and the expensive/hard to locate metric bolts needed to use a diaphragm clutch. One thing I'm not sure of is if there is a difference between diaphragm clutches for early and late cars.

I know you have to use the newer style flywheel which I think is 50oz. Ram
sells a flywheel that you can use the old style 3 prong and it has the bolt patern
for the new diaphram clutch. It your using the old style belhousing you need
the adapter bracket that holds your z bar on the engine. Ive been looking into
this swap also. I want to run a explorer 5.0 engine since there is a lot of them
in the junk yard with low miles. Im debating on the fuel injection or running a
carburetor on mine. I also have a T10 4spd.

Hope this helps

Alot of aftermarket flywheels have both patterns. My Fidanza does and also came with removable counterweights for 28 or 50oz imbalance engines. The engine-side Z-bar bracket is an important part too. The original pivot is a meager $10 to replace, but the coversion part is anywhere from $50-60.00.

You're looking for these bolts in the wrong places. Any bolt/fastener store will have these in stock. Grade 8 or 9 and similar grade lock washers for the pressure plate will run you less than $10.

Cool, i have a stock 50 ounce flywheel that i'm going too use, and i'm swaping a new centerforse DF clutch into my twinturboed 93gt stang and was going too use the King Cobra clutch from it (only has about 3000 miles on it and in great shape). Does anyone know how much that Z bar peice is and who all carrys it. The bellhousing is a stock peice that came with the toploader. I'm going carbed with it for now, but i might swap on an EFI later down the road.

I was just going by what the majority of posters I read had claimed. I know where to get them by the hundred if I needed them, but most people only know to ask Ford's parts counter)who will charge you ~$6 per bolt if
I recall). For anyone reading, grade 9 is around 180,000psi and comparable to ARP fasteners.

Most large early Mustang parts suppliers like NPD or Mustangs Unlimited should have it for about $60.
