i have residue and imprints left on my coupe from whoever removed the badges before i got it. it looks like crap without them there due to this residue. it feels like it's imprinted in the paint from being there for so long. so what do you guys think? is there anything to remove this residue after this long or just put some back on?

goo gone, razor blade, and a steady hand. or just put some back on

i tried goo gone already. i don't think its coming off without risking paint damage at this point. :(

anyone have a link to the 5.0 badge in all black? i'd rather not have the red. i did some searching last night. i found alot of people didn't like the aftermarket plastic ones. the threads were pretty old though.

A pro with a buffer might be able to take it down, but if it's an imprint, then it's permanent.

I was thinking of painting a set of 5.0 badges with black translucent paint. haven't done it yet. Gotta dig up an old badge and test it out before i spend the coin on new OEM's

yeah.. my car has a loose black/white theme to it. i dont really want the red dot in the mix of it. whatever i guess, it's just a logo.

does anyone that you have seen make an all black one without the high performance under it? or maybe a steel/aluminum one atleast? i'm not real thrilled at paying $50 for some plastic with tape on the back of it.

The red dot does come off. It's just a decal.

I removed it on my original set of 5.0s. I just used a pin to lift a corner up and then peeled it back. So the emblem was all-chrome. No red dot.

I have the red dot now. Figure it matches my calipers. Unsure if i'm gonna do the black emblem thing. I don't want it blending into the fender. I want it to be visible.

Maybe a claybar would clean it up?? Nice rims btw :p

PS Mustang5L5.....I tried the "black chrome" look after i read one of your posts about it a while ago.I was trying to decide on emblems or not after i had my car repainted (decided on badgeless btw) Heres what i came out with anyways. Its kind of hard to get a real idea of what it looks like due to the reflection.Prob be better if i had a better camera.:chair:

Looks good. I'd prob give it a few more coats to darken it up a bit.

I still need to try this myself to see if actual results are anything like what i picture in my head

John i removed the badges cause it didnt have a 5.0 no more.We tried a clay bar and thats the best we could do so a clay bar wont work.Using the dremal and eraser head thingy might work?I was going to get 5.8 badges to go over them or when i got around to repainting the car was gonna have it taken care of at that point.I was also gonna do the 5.8 badges and paint them black BUT leave the point in red,i think that would set it off with the 5.8 in black?Oh yeah BTW i got the hood primed black off the 89,would you want to trade me hoods still?peace

ok. i would rather people just think i have a 5.0 regardless of whats in there. so i'll just get some oem replacements i guess.

as far as the hoods go, im not sure honestly. ill kick it around some.

I don't really think the point has to actually match anything. It's not really that blatent.

Now that i look at my car...maybe i should just leave the chrome 5.0's. I dunno...I found a spare emblem...so time to grab some black transluscent paint and give it a test

If the previous owner glued them on with like 3M Eblem Adhesive, I'd hate to say it, but it ate into the clear/paint. No buffer, no thinner, no nothing is gonna take that off. The only thing that will reduce the uneveness and discolorign is to wetsand it and then rub it out as best you can. My friends white lightning had Cobra snakes glued on. I hit it with 1000, 1500, 2000 and buffed. It took it down a bit, but not completely. You have to be careful not to wetsand too much because you will burn through.

I may have missed it as I was skimming, but did you try a heat gun? Most adhesives will loosen up and you will be able to take it right off. I did this with my stock 5.0 badges...

I'm the previous owner and was the one that removed them.As far as i knowthey were the stock badges. This was an ex texas state patrol car so all the years in texas might of baked them on even more? Dustin i used a heat gun to get them off.,and it still left residue :nonono: peace
