Does anyone know of any good books that are like "dummy" guides to the 5.0 engine or Fox mustangs.

I know the basics of car mechanics and can change oil, brakes, shocks, etc. What I do NOT know are the ins- and outs- of everything. For example, I know what an EGR, IAT, etc are.....but really don't know how all this stuff works together. I know what lifters, cams, springs, valves, etc. are.....but I don't really know how the size, duration, lift, etc.....relate to one another.

Ok, if you're still following me, I'm looking for a book or something that will help guide me through the basics and into the more detailed information. Since I own a 92 that was built by at least 2 previous owners, there are parts of my car that I'm not even sure what they are anymore (example...the TB size).

Of course reading SN always yields me good info, but its hard to really grasp some things when its detailed information about such random topics sometims rather than a coherent guide in a logical manner.

I'm pretty obsessive....I really want to learn everything I can about this car so I can do all the work myself, troubleshoot, etc. I want to know how each and every little piece works.

Even if there are various books that you found useful, for example a book on V8 pushrod motors or something.....post em up please!

I love this book but it's more about information and specs than wrenching.

A factory service manual, as well as the "Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual" are the best investment you can make for your car. They pop up on eBay very frequently. You'll probably pay $50-60 for the pair and they put the Chilton and Haynes manuals to shame.

How to understand, service, and Modify Ford Fuel Injection and electronic engine control by Charles Probst For more info about the 5 liter engine, go to barnes and noble or the other bookstore and look in the automotive section. I found a great book on building ford strokers there.

Ok, if you're still following me, I'm looking for a book or something that will help guide me through the basics and into the more detailed information. Since I own a 92 that was built by at least 2 previous owners, there are parts of my car that I'm not even sure what they are anymore (example...the TB size). That's kinda tough because so little is stock. Put up a picture and ask?

Even if there are various books that you found useful, for example a book on V8 pushrod motors or something.....post em up please!I'm not sure where the book I got on strokers is, but it was good.

Thanks for the title fix!

And thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll check into them. Good idea to check out some vocational classes...hands on is way easier for me.

I think I really need to just patiently sift through the 3 files worth of paperwork I got with the car. Some of it is so old though, tough to tell if that is still what's on it. But anyways, organize that and do a very detailed look through on the car itself to come up with an accurate list of mods. This would likely be the best way to start off.

As I've looked at this car more and more...I'm starting to gather a nice little list of things I'd like to do. Even with all the work already done, I can still think of a dozen projects for it already! Some costing very little, some costing a little more.

My car guy across the street said he was looking at turbo setups for me already!

As stated above, a factory service manual is a very valuable tool. Also check Summit racing, or a Barnes and Nobles for other technical books for the five liter.

I love the technical reference manual as mentioned above, and there's also one out there called "How to Tune and Modify Ford Fuel Injection" that is good. It's pretty technical, but a great book.

I have a link posted above. The book is currently out of print, but there are used copies out there.

I guess I'm just trying to find other sources of broadening my auto mechanic knowledge as well....ya know a little research so I don't always have to ask a million questions on here like a big dummy.

That book is the ****! The best 25$ I've ever spent. This should be your fox body Mustang Bible. I must have read this thing cover to cover 4 times.

It is definitely a must have. You will not regret buying that book.

I just ordered that book from Amazon. Looks pretty thorough. Sounds like it will be a good start to begin my way through it on my throne

Learn how the eec4 works and everything else kinda falls into place if you have a good understanding of an internal combustion engine.
