5.0 Carbed. Having Issues!!

Well everyone im having some issues with my car and I dont know what to do. This thing has been a pain in the ass for the past month. Specs are at the bottom of the thread.

I had a cracked base plate for my carb so I got a new one from Proform. I went to put it on and when it was all said and done there was a vacum leak but the car was drivable. When I went to the gas station it was lugging and loading up really bad.

I took the car to a guy by my house today that is supposedly really good with carbs. He messed with the idle mixture screws on the metering blocks. He told me it had a vaccum leak becuase there was 2 gaskets between the carb and the intake manifold. When I left I got on it and the thing ran amazing. It had really crisp and fast throttle response. Anyway I took the gaskets off and put a new gasket on between the carb and manifold.

I go to start the car and the thing is idling at 3k and is racing. I turned the idle mixture screws on the metering blocks out a turn or so which brought the idle down to 1k. I took it around the block to see if it was ok. The thing ran rich and it was just terrible. I ended up taking the car to a friend of a friends and he took a look at it. It turned out the linkage from the primarys to the secondarys was too short and was opening the secondarys at idle.

That problem is solved. He adjusted the idle mixture screws and the thing bogs when you go to give it WOT. It clears out and pulls pretty good. When you push the accerator pump to give it gas while going to rev it WOT it its fine.

What can i do to fix this issue? I was told i need a bigger squirter or bigger accelrator pump. The jets are 71 in the primary and 72 in the secondary. The timing is where it should be. The float levels are dead nuts on. Idk this thing is giving me headaches!!!

Sounds like the accelerator pump is not working right. With the engine not running, look down inside the carb, and move the gas linkage, if it's a double pumper, there should be 4 squirts of gas , one in each hole. If there is not, it's the accelerator pump(s) if there is it's something else.
 
so it turned out that the accelerator pump and the cam were 50cc's. I was told i need a 30cc pump cam and accelerator pump. There was to much fuel getting dumped into the intake or soemthing. A engine builder i worked for looked at it and 30seconds later he knew exactly what the problem was

So i got the pump but i didnt get the cam becuase the local parts place didnt have cams in stock. What color cam do i need? The one on the plate is pink. Would it be the white one?
 
well i changed the accel pump today annnnnndddd it definetly fixed my problems. Im still using the cams that came with the base plate. Tomorrow im going to get the right cam or take the screw and put it in the number 2 hole.

I got on it today and no lag at all. When im cruising and i punch it it stutters for a fraction of a second. Well see what the cam issue does. But overall im stoked the thing runs better! No more headaches!

As for proform around me everyone praises them. Idk personally i dont think i would buy a complete carb from them. Anyone got any feedback on quickfuels line of carbs? Im looking to build a 351 based motor this winter. Im doing some research to figure out the combo i want. Any input?

BTW i love this site. Its way more helpful then half the sites out there could ever dream of being!
