It would be alot easier to swap in the mazda 1.8 gtx engine and you can get quite a bit of power out of them.

Big time. I used to drive escorts, my first car was a 94LX auto, ran 19.1 at 65mph down the quarter (I got bored watching, wanted to see what it was like to drive down the track) and my second one was a '95 GT 5-speed with the 1.8 DOHC Mazda motor, ran 10.3 in the 1/8th with about mid 75mph trap speed, that was when it was stock and me not knowing how to drive it. I looked into the GTX/GTR engine, the whole motor turbo and all used from Japan was about $3000 and makes over 300hp, but it would still be an escort so I got the real deal, 5.0.
