what used to get me is the 300 ft/lbs of torque, look at any car magazine today cars like the sti or 350z will have better times, more hp, skid pad etc. 5.0 still beats them in the torque department, which is a reason why the car is such a blast to drive. and we have the most wicked exhaust in all the world hahahaha!

For sure. Often when someone is mentioned as a Mustang owner I'll ask "is he into Mustangs or does he just have one?"

I'm nuts, and so I need to hang around people at least nearly as nutty as me when it comes to Mustangs.

Most people I've met hate them because they are (actually "were" would be more correct) all over the road.

Many of you don't understand. You're too young. When I was on the street scene from about 1995 to 1999, 5.0's were EVERYWHERE. I mean you couldn't take your trash out to the curb without seeing one.

Everybody and their brother it seemed owned one. So when it came to race time, they were like flies on poop. Many people got sick of seeing them. That's the excuse I get all of the time.

Think about it. They were very cheap even when they were new, so when they stopped making them in 1993, they were even cheaper used. And in great condition. The aftermarket exploded. Everyone knew a stock 5.0 was slow from the factory, but they out ran the camaro in their day. They were one of the fastest cars on the road until the LT1 Camaro.

I guess the hate you talk about is unfounded. A stock 5.0 is rare. Kids these days just don't understand the history of these cars because they weren't alive to see it.

They were the working man's or the college kid's muscle car.

Strype got it right! My racin days were right in the heyday. I was the second kid on my block, ordered my first new one Halloween of 1987, picked it up Dec. 23, best Christmas I've ever had. Two years later, they're everywhere. Made more than one payment courtesy of some sap or another on South Chicago Avenue. But, yeah, the IROC guys, Trans Am guys, and how could we forget, the guys with the Monte Carlo SS, coolest looking slower than s... car ever produced, dreaded going out. Somebody would polish them off in a hurry with even a stock 5.0, I guess they hold grudges a long time, cause their kids drive the imports and hate us. Its ok though, I didn't care what they said then, either!

man I definitally feel you. There are people who mod cars b/c its cool and theres people who mod cars because it feeds that need for the adrenaline rush along with the respect you get for building something and the feeling of accomplishment. Someone who is really into mustangs will never reply to something you said you did with "man your crazy" because they will be equally as crazy.

The look, the sound, the feel....i was hooked from my first ride in the passenger seat.

They are like the measuring stick for all street cars, everyone you talk to has had one, owned one, there brother had one, the kid in the trailer park had one or has one now. Like Strype said they were all over. Everyone of those damn kids that dump money into a Civic and then can barely hang with a 5.0 is insulted the first time they lose and thus "hates" on them.

My roomate has spent well over $30,000 on his WRX. My aquisition cost plus the engine rebuild I'm guessing maybe ~$6k. Can't wait untill this summer so I can give him a good spanking. When I told him I was building a new motor and told him how much I was probably going to spend (around 2500) he said "all that just to beat a 4 cly?" Last time I checked he has spent 5 times as much as I have.

What isn't there to love about the 5.0, cheap, fast, easy to work on. My dad owned my 5.0 before me. Ever since he bought it when I was little I knew that was the car I wanted.

Talking about reputation?? I'm 19 and I'm driving a car that is nearly as old as I am and love every second of it. You would be suprised how many older gents have pulled up next to me at stoplights giving me the thumbsup or revving their engines. Everywhere I go people seem to still love the 5.0.

I finally got mine back together (flex fan & stock airbox back on) yesterday after work. I go to drive it for the first time in a month and turn around in an old country gas station parking lot.

Before I could pull out I had 2 guys asking me questions about my black rims, why the interior looked so good, what've I done to it... yadda yadda. Yep, I hadn't had it out for more than 5 minutes

I concur. It's mainly the older crowds that give the props. I was in the parking lot the other day, started up to leave, and an older guy was standing my his truck with a cheesy looking grin on his face giving me the thumbs up on my car.

Usually the younger crowd just wants to know what kind of speakers I have, where/how much I bought my rims for.

Serveral people hold grudges against certain cars they lose to and will bad mouth them, to feel better about the loss. Maybe we should let people win sometimes.

I get the same thing, whenever I start it up and they hear the loping people always say something. Its almost like theyre glad to see the younger generation still representing the american muscle amongst the import craze...heh.

I owned 6 F-bodies through out the 1990s. I grew up in Detroit, where my entire family worked for GM.

In 1999 I bought my first Ford, a T-Bird. Still didn't like mustangs at that point. I went through several years of owning the bird, and was amazed at the quality and strenght of the product (considering how well it took abuse from all the modding).

I got a 03 Cobra in 03, trading the T-bird. Thats were I fell in love with the fox. I got tired of the car being so quick... it was to easy to take people with. I started thinking of a project that I could build on a modest budget. I wanted it to be unique... power with good handling. The rational decision was the fox body. It's the 55 chevy of our times. Lots of parts, easy to work on.. but with enough modern amenities and fuel injecton on top of it all.

because its an icon. ive had too many people come up to me and tell me nice car. tree removal people telling me about their buddies 5.0 that would do anything you told it to, down to people in grand am's racing me. ill never forget. i got my car and about a week of owning it and driving it around. first stick shifted car i ever owned/driven. it was my first car period. i was sittin next to this stingray at a light and he asked me if he wanted to go. i had no confidence at all and i was like yeah sure, might as well, ill probably looses though. haha, had him by the top of 2nd. i know there pretty slow, but i beat someone in my BONE STOCK 5grand mustang.

i slightly disagree with some people on the civic thing. i think civics are cool in that they are so light, and simple that nothing ever breaks. i would build one to drive every day and auto-x. but there would be a 5.0 sitting in my driveway also...

people with honda's rag on me and 94gtho all the time. but were the ones taking them to school after their hondas blow up and break.

so many people that are my age talk crap about my car that you wouldnt believe it. everyday someone says something to me about my bad gas mileage, my ****ty car, rustang. i get it all. its to the point now where im messing with them. i tell them it gets 10-12 mpg (more like 15-18) and i just agree with them and go yeah. its a piece. i hate it. they ask me when im gonna get a honda, which they consider a real car, and i say never. ill never sell my car.

long live the v-8, and more importanly, the fox body with a v-8.

take one mustang and one civic.

let them each get intake manifolds, heads, and cams, full exhaust and a turbo and what is going to win? not to mention you wont have to mortage your house to do it to the mustang.

i dont need to tell :SNSign: the answer to that question....

I think there's just way too many 200k+ mile beat stockers out there with punk 16 year olds driving them that think they're the fastest thing in the world. While they'd be lucky to run a 15. Cars and drivers like this make people think all foxes are slow and junk. They don't understand that a good running stocker with a couple bolt ons, tricks and a good driver can embarass a lot of stuff out there, I know this from experience. I'm pretty sure everyone with a fox has had similar encounters with these idiots. This tool that I work with swears his stock hemi quad cab pickup will waste my car

That's the problem, people won't line up. They talk all kinds of **** until you ask them to run, then they won't man up.
