5.0 haters.. 5.0 reputation

i love the 5.0's....in fact......im going to be buying one after i sell my Supecoupe...id take a 5.0 over a new car any day...fun factor of the 5.0

plus...whats better then the sound? 5.0 have one of the nicest tones around...my camaro Buddy's....even my buddy with a civic agrees...cant beat it... thats what hooked me...

damn dude sounds like you need to start handing some people their asses or something. Nobody has ever talked crap about my car to my face because Id line up in a heartbeat.

That's the problem, people won't line up. They talk all kinds of **** until you ask them to run, then they won't man up.

exacly. once someone starts messin with me and stuff on the road and doing flyby's my next comment is get next to me and honk 3 times and we'll find out who's cool then.

all my friends that do that are just messin, they drive like crap stock 240sx's and civics, ect. they all know its a waste of time to race me. i have friends with gsr integra's and preludes that still tell me ill win. if someone really means it when they talk **** then a race happens.

so your friends whose fathers drive camaros and civics:D

It's the 55 chevy of our times.

I believe in this statement, and have read it and said it myself before.

Back when I was 15, about to get my license, the car I could NOT have was an 86 Mustang GT. A girl who lived a few houses down had a boyfriend who drove one, and seeing him light up the tires leaving the neighborhood one night had me hooked!

When I finally got my own fox in 02, I was dead set on making it exactly the one I've always wanted. Now I've got it, but my "vision" seems to keep changing uncontrollably! LOL

Yeah when i got my 5.0 i had a guy want to race me in his grand am gt. It was when it was quiet and the engine reved over the exhuast. If you know what i mean. I just laughed haha. Now i own a grand am gt and wow would i just murder him lol. And as soon as i put my full exhuast on hes like oh **** that must be fast. Its funny what exhaust can do.

:hail2: Seriously, I can't count how many debates or "my car has ..." rants that have came to a screeching halt when I calmly suggest, "cool, wanna go line'em up?" Then its like, "oh...uhhh...ummm my clutch is slipping! yeah that's it! My clutch is slipping!" Most of the time it's not to show them up but I'd rather be racing than talking. Otherwise, what's the point?

Alot of my friends love the 5.0 (myself included) but I know a growing amount of people who are constantly knocking them (and suprisingly.. its not out of jealousy) Then I got to thinking.. our cars dont handle the greatest, they are pretty outdated and get low mpg, they come from the factory underpowered, they are heavy (in relation to imports), similar era gm v8s make more power, and everyone in their family sedans think they can beat them .. I guess their comments are just getting to me, but why does our beloved 5.0 have such a great reputation? I need to be sure of myself so i can defend
Bah, there is a group of haters for practically every car. I know what you mean about everyone on the road thinking they can take you. I daily drive my '92 here in L.A. I am constantly being "shown up" by every type of car and SUV (especially newer ones) you can think of. Add to that how relatively tame my car looks and you end up with a few people getting more than they bargained for. The bang for the buck factor is still there and these cars can be plenty "nice" when taken care of. The fact that they still have such a healthy following says all I need to know. That being said, the numbers are dwindling. The 5.0s still out there are only getting older so their owners will have to be that much more dedicated to them (time/money). As much as I love my cars, I'm never surprised when someone decides to move on to something newer.

Most people I've met hate them because they are (actually "were" would be more correct) all over the road.

Many of you don't understand. You're too young. When I was on the street scene from about 1995 to 1999, 5.0's were EVERYWHERE. I mean you couldn't take your trash out to the curb without seeing one.

Everybody and their brother it seemed owned one. So when it came to race time, they were like flies on poop. Many people got sick of seeing them. That's the excuse I get all of the time.

Think about it. They were very cheap even when they were new, so when they stopped making them in 1993, they were even cheaper used. And in great condition. The aftermarket exploded. Everyone knew a stock 5.0 was slow from the factory, but they out ran the camaro in their day. They were one of the fastest cars on the road until the LT1 Camaro.

I guess the hate you talk about is unfounded. A stock 5.0 is rare. Kids these days just don't understand the history of these cars because they weren't alive to see it.

They were the working man's or the college kid's muscle car.

100 percent correct.. Me and you must be about the same age because that was the years I was into the "street scene" and 5.0's were everywhere and I was one of those people that had to be different and bought a turbo regal

The town I lived in back in those days is named framingham, but my GM buddies nicknamed it fordingham because of all the 5..0's out on route 9 every weekend night. LOL they were everywhere..

Those were some really fun days.. Now it's all slow ricer junk out on the streets :nonono:

yeah exactly, even if they dont race if you make them look like enough of an ass they will usually keep quiet from then on. All you need to do is win one good race and the word spreads like wildfire lol.

It's funny because right now in my town 5.0L are once again coming out of the wood work. There are more new 5.0L here then I can shake a stick at. It seems here at least these cars a getting popular with the early 20 year olds. The only thing is they all drive them like idiots. There is a time and place and in front of my house when I'm outside with my 1 1/2 year old and my 3 year old is not the place.

How come everyone elses towns are infested with modded cars? I live in an area of combined population of about 130,000 people and there are few if any cars I run into that are modded and ready to go. Maybe its Iowa, maybe its the snow? IDK. Just makes my car stick out more

When I was 15 I got my first Mustang, an 85 GT. That car was a MAJOR hit amongst all my friends, even though it was a big POS. By 2000/2001 the 5.0/Fox Mustang was THE car to have in my area, everybody and their brother was trying to get their hands on them, and they all did...weird part was that only a few of us really "stuck together" It is clear now that some were just doing it to be cool...I am one of a few who is still into them

Senior year HS 2001-2002 the parking lot had:

Black 1991 LX 5.0 (mine)
Silver 1988 GT - now has Sonic Blue 03 GT but wants to sell for SRT8 Charger
Red 1988 LX 2.3 Turbo (FAST) - still has the same car, its now modified for open track events
Black 1991 GT - long gone, now has a FAST Audi S4
Green/Silver 1992 GT - wrecked bad, now has a blown 93 Cobra
Blue 1993 LX 2.3 - never a true Mustang guy, just wanted to "fit in"
Black 2001 GT (girl owned) - totaled

then across the aisle from me was this kid Jesse who had a beat old Trans Am GTA that he supposedly dropped a 400 small block in...too bad it wouldnt stay running long enough to even back out of his parking space!

the best part was...there was NO RICE (other than this one kid who had a BEAT DOWN old civic with a bunch of ricey parts on it, but he knew his car sucked)

oh and one last short story if anyone cares...one kid told me my car sucked because everyone has them, i said yea, so? what do you drive? his reply?

a saturn.
