I'm not sure about the truck block, but if you're ready to spend the money on an aftermarket block, it would be a good idea to go with a Dart, or the new Ford Boss 302 block which looks like it's going to be great, and rather affordable. You will spend $2k on a Dart, plus machining. The Boss will probably be around $1500 plus maching. If you don't plan on going much over 500rwhp, you could find a used Ford Sportsman block for cheap, but that won't handle nearly as much as the others I listed.

If you can find a mexican 302 block you can put about 600 hp in it safely. They are still around. maybe you can do a search to find one.
