If i bought another modular motor car it would be a 4v. 5.0s are cheaper and have more torque, yet unless you find a low mileage one that hasnt sat out much, it will need some work.. Many parts underneath my hood were dry-rotted and the pcv system was SHOT! The 96-98 4.6 SOHC motors were in my opinion after owning one, not that great but the newer 4.6 (99+) are good motors. I sucked up water in my 5.0 and shot it out the tailpipes--no bent rods where a 4.6 would have been torn apart (valve clearance) and a 99+ motor with a charger is very strong. If you want to put in the work and spend a little less money cause of cheaper aftermarket parts and a simpler motor, get a 5.0. Hope this helps PM me with any other ?'s

I was at the hot rod show in Detroit this spring.i talked to SVT team. Told them I was lookin at stangs and asked which one to buy..they recommended a 94 or 95 because of the engine..a mcouple months later i scored a 94 Cobra and put my z28 up in the barn.. doin mods on the 5.0 is fun and rewarding..the SVT team was right!

If its just gonnabe a daily driver/cool car I say get a low mileage 96-98 GT. It'll be easier to find one in good condition because they are newer. And with the 05's coming out soon the SN95's are gonna take a hit in depreciation I would predict.

If you are going to be doing the typical mods and you know how to work on a car, get a 94/95 GT 5 speed, without a doubt. My very mildly modded 94 GT has run faster than my dad's 2000 GT 5 speed, but he's mostly stock. The thing is that I paid $6500 for mine back in June of 01 & it had 43k on it. He paid $20k for his and it was brand new. You get alot more bang for the buckwith the 94/95 GT's.

And if you're worried about reliability just make sure the car is in decent shape, its a 5 speed, and it'll be fine. Mine has 200+ drag strip passes on drag radials, 85k miles, mutliple auto-x events, & 3 open track days at a road course. It has NEVER failed me, even when I did a smoke show with the clutch instead of the tires. They are built to take some abuse, and its much easier & cheaper to make a 302 fast than a 4.6L, especially the 2V.

I agree with the statement to test drive all you can. I own a 95 with some mods and it feels more burly than a 99+ GT. I have driven my dads 03 cobra about 10 times now and his car is definently a major freaking beast, by far the the funnest car i have driven. But you cant afford that stuff since you are 17, so i say go for the 94-95. Youll have your fun times F'ing with the gay computer, modding, and breaking tons of stuff, but the 5.0 is worth it and is only made stronger and more reliable
