Hey guys...looking for some experts on the 5.0 and trannys...

I got a 88 ford ranger that I am getting ready to drop in a 5.0L motor out of a 87' and need to know what you guys recommend as a great tranny to hold alot of power and be great for 1/4 drag... I plan on running nitrous on it probably buildind the motor stronger later...think I should go with automatic or manual? thanks guys for the help!

a c4 or c6 tranny would be a good choice. the C6 is heavier but stronger than the C4 but both are good

I have been on ranger forums but they mostly swap the 302 V8 out of some older car from 70's or later and arent looking for performance for drag racing(they want torque to turn big offroad wheels)...so I figured I go to the guys who tear my 350z apart at the drag strip

Also, amongst the folks on here that I know, I consider Justin (SeventyMach1) to be the resident expert about Rangers (including V8 swaps) and he has a very good working knowledge of 5.0's (he has one) - he's who I'd go to for answers. He was really into Rangers for awhile and I'd be willing to bet he has some nice links and such as well.

Good luck.

I had one with a c4 worked fine, takes some suspension work to get one to hook up. I always wanted a 5 speed in it though. If you can run a tremec like a 3550 or tko, the only reason I say that is you can run the shifter on the mid-mount and it lands pretty close to the stock shifter hole. Do check the RPS forums. They have all the good info.
