So my friend is Looking at an 88 bird. We were wondering if the engine was the same. I'm sure they are, IDK why they would be different.
Also, what tranny does the bird have? t5 and AOD, or something different? Thanks.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

its not an HO motor, so you are looking at crappy heads, cam, and intake.

the 5.0. in the t-bird is different. It's a non H.O. motor they share the same lower end and have roller cam blocks but are fitted with flat tappet (non roller) cams and even more restictive heads, also cast iron headers and 14lb injectors. the only T5 that i can think of in the T-Bird was the turbo coupe not sure on the auto. to get better ideas find a T-Bird site though but it is a non H.O. motor.

greensvt is right...

also, the firing order is differrent from a HO engine. The tranny is an AOD.

I had an 87 Cougar that I swapped over to the HO engine, its a direct swap...just put the HO processor in it as well. Aosl, a Mustang H pipe will fit, as will headers....its still a Fox Body, so most Mustang parts will fit with little to no modification.
