I am almost positive this has been discussed in this forum at one point in time, but I am new here so here goes anyways. I am in the process of overhauling my 94gt and I would really love to go modular. My question is whats the best way to go about doing this money and difficulty factor both included. Lets just say I dont want to spend 12 grand for 390hp of an '03 cobra motor. I would prefer maybe a 98 4v with a Kenne Bell SC. If anyone can point me to a web page or provide any information on the best way to do this it would be greatly appreciated.

Call me a traitor, but modular has me!

Wow....most people would like to go the other way. Athough its an old-school low-tech pushrod motor, you can get some good numbers out of a 302 for far less $$$ than a 4.6L. But I have to respect someone that wants to move onto something new.

I would think about finding a good used 4V from a wrecked car. That way, you have all the accessories (PS, Alt., A/C, etc.) and all the respective brackets and hardware. I'm also thinking that the K-member is different between the 5.0 and 4.6. So I would skip an OEM one and get a good tubular K-member for the 4.6 from someone like AJE or PA Racing which will help making header access easier down the road.

As for 2V or 4V, choose your weapon. There are some really high-hp blown 2Vs around now and things like cams and other various parts are a little cheaper for the 2V.

There's tons more, but thats the first things that came to my mind. Good luck on your project :nice:

Just had to post: Wow. Keep us updated.

you can so much more with soo much less with your 5.0. It's a roller too! You can stroke it to a 347 for something like under 2k and have one hell of a torque beast. With some heads, a cam, headers, and exhaust on top of it  your looking at probably close to 400 horses easy I would bet. :nice:

I have driven many different mustangs with many different engines, and the one that seems to pull to my liking is the 4.6L 4v. Its just a personality thing I guess. I will probably just get a used 99 to play with instead of the conversion.

What other engine can pull 320hp on a plastic intake?

Plastic intake  I wouldn't really wan't a plastic intake. Especially with forced induction or a PA like Nitrous. I would agree with the 4V motor though , but doesn't a 2V make more torque down low? Especially with a KB   I would still go with a stroked 302 though.

Hey V8u, I think the swap is a good idea. I have already installed the idenpendent rear suspension (IRS) off of a 99 cobra on to my 93 coupe.
Everyones replys to your question was right on, ALMOST, but apparently they dont know that you can get a 4.6 DOHCwith 9,000 - 40,000 miles on it for around $1,400. The advantages to using the modular over the 5.0 L, is that you have a high revving mofo with 305 hp stock. Sure you could go with a stroker kit, but your looking at $1,400 just for the kit, and this is for high quality kit. Then you have to remove the motor and tear it down and have it built by a competant mechanic, unless your willing to take a chance on building it yourself. But anyways I think it is a good idea, go for it. Also you should think about IRS, you can get it all day long for around $500, here is a website for installing IRS on a fox body if anyone is interested.

Their are "plastic" box uppers for the 5.0 that can take way more than 320HP. :D

It would cost you less money to build up a nice 5.0.

If you want a modular, sell the GT and go look for a 96-97 Cobra. WIll be less headaches in the long run
