I had a 2001 5 Speed GT which I sold, had some mods which for what I got for my money didn't make it that quicker. I now have a 5.0...why? I bought my car for $2500, I'm about to sink 4 grand into it for a top end kit and suspension, and between 2-5K depending on what I decide to go with supercharger/Turbo.....

There are things I liked better on my New Edge such as AC, Better interior and fitment. But the more I do to my fox, the more I begin to love it. the 99-04 mod mustangs are good DD, if you want to go fast only consider 03-04 Cobra, Mach 1, or the 05+ Stangs.....

In the End you could build a killer Fox for the price you'll pay for a stock or sligtly modded SN95/New Edge/S197 Mustang......

I dunno about that, his fox must have been running like **** or the GT was lying to you. The only thing that runs side by side with me, with me using stock TB, MAF etc. etc. untuned is mach1's. Even then I still pull away by 4th gear. 99 04 GT's are pretty much a joke from a roll and from a stop its even worse, at least in my experiance.

I agree, that doesn't sound right at all. I've raced a couple and from a roll it was ugly. Racing from a dead stop was actually closer in my case because I couldn't hook. I had to chase them down.

depends on your goals for the car. I think the newer cars are much better for daily drivers. More comfortable, better stereo, better suspension etc. Getting out a 5.0 and into a 4.6 was the best move i made, but it fits my situation.

If you want a project car or something to just drive on the weekend to shows or the track, the 5.0 is the way to go. Motor is so much easier to work on and parts are cheaper. Getting power out of a N/A 4.6 is very expensive.

To each his own. I'd say get into a 4.6 and see how you feel. You can always go back.

Well I was in the fox, I helped put the motor together, and heard from the owner a shop owner that he bought all his parts from what mods it had. I guess the GT did put down 250 to the tire, and some of the guys there were calling it a ringer because it runs with a full exhaust (long tubes), pulley, CAI, intake and geared 02 vert.

I will know more when my friend gets the HCI car tuned!

not to sound rude but it sounds like your 5.0 might be a real peice of crap. I dont know about yours but mine is mint, black on black and is a bad mofo. I think 5.0's are meant for the quarter mile. With 5- 10 k into the engine you could blow away anything that gets into your path. Yeah if you have faded paint, tore up seats, ****ty trim inside the car and duct tape holding your head unit to the dash than yeah, you should go modualr. My 5.0 is only a weekend warrior and I plan on keeping it till i go to the grave. This is my 3rd stang. One of which was 03 cobra. 5.0 ftw. Sell your 5.0 now. Your not worthy

Wait a second! Were you spying on my car? haha

Mine is a beat-to-**** DD. It needs some love to be the muscle machine it was designed to be but I'll get it there eventually.

lol. Nothing that a little money and tlc cant take care of. I think the thread poster probably just doesnt have any appreciation for old fox bodies. Its not his fault really he may be too young. I used to drive a 1990 gt back in 1992. So the love has always been there

I'll eventually have to get some pics of my baby up here. It's going to be polished black on the out, black on the in. 17x9 03 cobra rims, cobra intake, cold air, new heads, etc.
I'm going to shoot for like 300hp naturally aspirated. What would I have to put in to ballpark that hp?

Tried to replace the 5.0 six different times. It would go, I'd get what I thought I wanted, then I'd go through withdrawl till I got the next one, cause nothing else is the same. 67 GTO, 55 Chevy, 67 Caddy ragtop, first 5.0 with Flowmasters goes by, and I couldn't care less what I had, just isn't my LX. I've given up fighting it, I'll be buried in it.

A 5.0 over a 55 Chevy or a 67 Goat? OK!

Boy, you guys put a 5.0 on a pedistal it doesn't belong on! I love them and will always own one, but in this day and age it doesn't compare to a rare classic!

Love my GTO's, Dad bought a 69 when I was 13, taught me the musclecar thing old school, the 67 was huge, my 55 was nice to cruise, but when I was 21 I got my first 5.0, the dealer had to order it cause of the Regatta Blue, and nothing, but nothing fits me like it. They are a classic, too, everyone knows what they are, and what they'll do. People didn't put us on any pedastal when they were new, and some still don't. Good, keeps the rif raf out. Those other cars were great to have, my 5.0 is great to keep. When I can figure more of this computer thing out, I'll post pics of my former rides, and the special one. Hell, I've even got the running pony tattoo, on the left arm, the driver side!

Seriously, I fully acknowledge the heritage & value that those cars carry but I have no urge to own either over a well-kept 5.0.
