5.0's are getting old! I mite go Modular

EH, 3 years ago when i bought my GT i might have agreed with you, but today I still prefer my 5.0 over my mod mustang.

Parts are cheaper, lighter smaller car, engine is easy to work on and they are getting rare!

Seriously, when i go on cruises with buddys, it's my GT and a ton of 99+ Mustangs and maybe 1 fox.

I will be selling my GT someday, and then will concentrate on making my 5.0 one badass car

+12345 That's me to a T :nice:

I've flirted with the 302 Miata idea... But everytime I pushed in the clutch, I always hit the brakes too... and when the top is up, OMG! Those things are small :) It would be cool though, like a poor man's AC Cobra. :)

yeah, i know, those things are freakin' small and i dont know if i'd enjoy driving one with the top up... it just wouldnt seem right. i've looked at the monster kits and have sent an email asking what it would cost to have them install, that's what's going to really matter in my decision. the numbers you see from monster miatas are just irresistably, though. if not that, i was looking at getting a notch for my 2.3t but man, if i could get that into a miata, that'd still be cool.:nice:

They run high 13's (99-04) with a good driver/5spd at 100mph.

05's run mid-13's at 103-104mph.

mph isnt what matters in the 1/4... hell, you can have a dirtbike/atv race you down the quarter and i can tell you who'll get down there faster, i can also tell you who'll have the greater mph.

You have never seen a DOHC with done up heads, cams, and intake??? I used HCI to make it easier, but Im referring to doing head work, cams, and either working on the stocker or going with a diff intake.

SO wheres the pics of Avril, because there are planty of DOHCs out there with head work, cams and intakes!

Alright, so you got me there. If you want pics of Avril, I'll probably get thrown in jail so screw that crap.

Anyways, my understanding based on what I've seen and what other people have said in this thread is the 4.6 aftermarket just isn't there and isn't as economical either. No, I have not seen a DOHC or SOHC Mustang with the above (especially cams) because virtually every mod Mustang I've seen so far either only has gears, exhaust, and cold-air or the most a supercharger on a stock motor. I'm not denying cars with N/A engine work don't exist, but they seem to be a minority. Four years at my local drag strip, I can tell you all I've seen for 4.6s are what I've listed above.

I will agree however that the SN-95 cars are probably better for daily drivers because they are newer. Time hasn't been well for the Fox considering the last one was made about 14 years ago (Mine is 15-years-old and some people's are over 20-years-old). However, mod for mod for price and potential the 5.0 aftermarket appears to be still above the 4.6, but this is for now, who knows what'll happen with time.

Unsure if you guys can view this pic, but heres my dream setup for my 5.0

Well for one I race mainly Ford only events, and there are a few done up SOHC and DOHC cars there. They run hard for being a small motor!

As far as my friend and his race, yes the car needed a tune, but it goes with my saying that roll races dont show much in the way of a cars performance. I know what the GT, and what the fox had. The race didnt go exactly how I figured, but not too far off!

I would LOVE a new Mach 1 to mod and mess around with!

New as in 2007? I didnt know they made em? Or are you talking about early 2000's?

I really don't see the point of this thread in the first place. All it does is stir up the 5.0 boys and girls, then they start calling the modular engines and sn95s gay. If you want to get a different car, just do it, don't make a big deal about it.

Anways get what you want. People get older, their priorities change, their driving style changes, or their needs of their vehicle changes. I use to love daily driving mustangs, I did it for over 6 years. At one time I owned my 88, 91, and my 96 all at the sametime. Fast forward 4 years later and I only own my cobra which sits under a car cover in my garage and its lucky to get driven once every two weeks.

Agree'd. Its a good topic though. Theres alot of different views and opinions. There a Lotta pride in these 5.0's!!

oh well.. for graduation im getting a 2008 gt.

I still want to have fun putting together an old fox. You dont get that value when buying a new car.

Its like adopting a child & having a child. The adopted one aint gettin my money for college!

if you dont want your fox please tell me. cause i want one sooo bad.

i dont understand why anyone is arguing anything. the guy wants to go modular and try something new... meh, ok. to each there own i guess. i know i personally love the sound of a 5.0 with a nice loping idle and i've been looking into the Monster Miatas... nope, not a fox, but how could would it be to have a 5.0 miata with a good h/c/i?(retoricle:p unless someone has a good response)

I was looking into 5.0 miatas too, they are actually quite feasible. The conversion kit from monster miata is $4,000 (and has everything you need to swap a 5.0 into a miata using common tools), a miata with a blown motor runs for about $2,000, then you need a 5.0, tranny and ecu for about $500 or so, a thunderbird 7.5 rear end for about $100, and exhaust for $1,000, and put aside another $1,000 for miscelaneous expenses. You end up with a reliable, fast, good handling car, and best of all your in under $10,000 and you still have the potential a stock 5.0 gives. Im really considering this route, the little car w/ the 5oh also nets mid 20 mpg in the city and close to 30 on the hwy. Its like a modern day shelby cobra :nice:

it would be de ****(edit; didnt know shi z was censored:shrug:). and according to monster, with a 5.0 at around 250 hp, you can have a miata doing 0-60 in 4-5 sec, 1/4 in the 12's and a top speed of 140-160(pending on gearing and whatnot). for the price, it's pretty badass, but i know many people that dont care for the chick-car look of miatas(even though i enjoy it).
