2001 Mustang GT Coupe
260 HP
3241 lbs Curb Weight
12.5 lbs/hp
1991 Mustang LX Coupe
225 hp
2775 lbs
12.3 lbs/hp
From strict math, let alone power band, gears etc... The 5.0 holds it's own.
The 4.6 would look as if it's sitting still from a stop and the 5.0 would get caught up to (if not passed but I doubt it) on high end.
That Lx coupe weight is quite underrated. My Lx weighs 3160 with aluminum heads/subframes - cancel each other out.
Stock 99-04 Gt's are capable of 100mph with some high 13's and very low 14's done several times...I haven't see a bone stock fox hit 100mph yet...![]()
They run high 13's (99-04) with a good driver/5spd at 100mph.
05's run mid-13's at 103-104mph.

LOL,, I just noticed that!(2700lbs) How about factory weight, who would win then?
I'm sorry but an AFR'd stang with all the toys vs. a near stock new edge is rediculous.
Go get your **** tuned. Seriously. That should be a low 12 sec ride, whereas the new edge is a mid 14 at best.
4.6 = timing chain BS. I hate in on my 4cyl....I dont like madness on my mustang. 5.0 = easy to work on, simple, can get stuff anywhere for it.
A P/I swap 4.6 is nice, but the dohc cam cars DO run really, really well. It's all a $ game though. Everyone's all "I've gone (X) with $(x). Get over it. A COMPLETE non hack car, that has some nice things on it costs $.
I've beaten LS1's with a $900 DSM, a die grinder and $40. Who cares. It'll show half the foxes in this thread tailights. Its a 4cyl... blah
Point is, build what you like. If you're tired of the fox, don't ask a message board. Get what you want. Do you ask them all your decisions in life? I LOVE my sn95 5.0 Stock is the uber-turd, but it will be fun. Is it $ yea..Could I do it cheaper? Sure. Do I want junkyard parts and and a thrown together car? Not again
I redid a fox for my brother, cause I LOVE foxbodies. Yea it drives like ****. It's a fox. That's what they do, that's what makes them special. Its a hotrod. Nothing more. It's WHY its so fun.
You want a DD, hands down sn95 or newer.
Want to go fast for not alot of money? Get something old. Mod it cheap...and get something else to drive to work. Like a 30+mpg import.
Carry on.

it would be a great race though!NO! Its not! If it were you would have stated it instead of the 1/8 mile. My 5.0 beats 90% of modulars off the line. But half way down the track is where they pass me. Yes its AWSOME having a 0-60 machine, but Im wanting more out of my muscle car! I wanna get 25MPG with the AC on, I want a factory 500+ watt sterio, I want all the creature comforts that the new ones have.

Yep it was me
It was also a few years ago, parts availibility has went up and prices are going down.
My friends bolt-on/stage 2 cam car (everything else is stock dynoed 288rwhp in 100* heat the first time on the dyno. They said with some cooler weather they could tune it up to '300rwhp'.
Let's see a 5.0L (which has .4 liters more) dyno 288rwhp in 100* heat with just bolt-ons and a cam. This car runs full weight/full accessories too.
In your video, drivers played a big factor and tune.
5.0 wins coupe vs. coupe!
Strype - Nah man, just check out the 4.6L forums or even post a thread, you will get some answers then
I'm out of here before it gets ugly...

i dont understand why anyone is arguing anything.the guy wants to go modular and try something new... meh, ok. to each there own i guess. i know i personally love the sound of a 5.0 with a nice loping idle and i've been looking into the Monster Miatas... nope, not a fox, but how could would it be to have a 5.0 miata with a good h/c/i?(retoricle
unless someone has a good response)
I do want to add in the 4.6 vs 5.0 debate...
Me and a friend were on a cruise with a few other Mustangs. Well we wanted to run a car or two there and ended up side by side with a 99-04 GT. (Pro drivers on a closed course obviousely) From a second gear roll (4000 or so) we took the GT by maybe a car until part of the way through 5th. And we didnt pull till we hit the middle of 4th gear! What makes this story impressive are the mods on the cars...
Our Car: 88 LX hatch. Stock bottem end, AFR 165s, Edelbrock Vic Jr, Comp cam, all the bolt ons, long tubes, o/r X, SLPs dumped, 3.55s etc...
His car: 99-04 GT, Bone stock with an off road H and hacked together flowmaster CB!
The 88 hasent been tuned yet, but this GT did run side by side with a HCI fox!
