Hello this is my first post on this forum and was wanting to know if anyone has had experience with either putting a 5.4 3v, or a Boss block in a 2005 up Mustang. Any advice is appreciated as I am at a dilemma as which way to go.

go with the 5.4 3v with ported heads, a set of cams, and headers. just get a cheap 5.4 out of a smashed truck or on ebay or somewhere.

Ya thats what I was thinkin if I went that route. I know the blocks are iron rather than aluminum, do they add alot of weight up front? I couldnt find anywhere that said how much the engine weighs.

the Gt500 iron block will prolly weigh at least 200lbs more than the new 5.0 (if not more since i think it weighs like 150lbs more than the aluminum version).

Ya I think your pretty close on the weight, just read that for every 100 pounds you save thats 10 hp gained. Startin to look like I might go with the Boss and just bore and stroke it out to a 336. I think that block weighs 165 pounds, which isnt to bad I guess. Last thing I want is my car to be super nose heavy.

you could just run (if not already installing) a kmember, with tubular a-arms and coil over kit. plus a battery relocate and a tubular radiator support to remove some weight off of the front end of your 'stang if you do decide to go with the 5.4. personally id go with the 5.4 3 valve, cause its probably going to be cheaper i think? but a stroked boss is always cool

I disagree, it's not going to be cheaper because you'll have to buy all the part's you mentioned.

It will be a lot cheaper in the long run to go with a big bore block setup than the 5.4. If you go with the 5.4 and 3v heads the intake manifold and exhaust headers will have to be custom made and some of the other accessories may not fit correctly either. If you want to go 5.4 then go with the 4v GT500 setup, that way you can use everything made for the GT500 including the computer and harness. There have been several guys that have swapped in the GT500 5.4 without any problems but a 5.4 3v would be a big pain.

Thanks for the input, ya I wasnt sure on the exhaust part. Dont feel like spendin a ton of money on headers and other parts especially if theres a chance of not fitting right.
