5 lug swap worth it?

how do you have 800 bucks in it...!!!!!!!!!!

i did mine for like 150 bucks!!!!!!!

I've finally got all the parts I need for a 5 lug swap.
I'll have spent over $800 to do it once its all done.
Parts:
$210 for four '03 v6 wheels
$210 for the front spindles and calipers and brackets
$6 for the balljoint spacers (www.breezeautomotive.com)
$8 for the brake line adapter (passenger side)
$25 for front pads
$90 for two rotors
$65 for two Ranger drums
$80 for two Ranger axles
$39 for 20 lug nuts (I needed acorn nuts and I have open nuts now)
$7 for caliper spray paint (silver)
$20 for spare tire
Parts total- $760

When its done Ill have to get a front end alignment which is about $65.
Also:
brake fluid- $4
dismount, mount and balance tires $65 (I might be able to mount them at my friends garage but he doesnt have a balancer)
2 quarts of gear lube- $20
friction modifier for rear- $8

total- $97

Grand total (estimated)- $857
That doesnt include parts I might need like new balljoints and tie rod ends.
I just remembered that I didnt get the washers for the banjo bolts too so thats not added in.

I got some weird looks and questions when I went to/called junkyards about the axles.

well the lincon setup stops my 18"chromes perfect....i dont need anymore braking...so for me it was perfect....i only did the swap to get 5 lug.....i dont give a damn if i drop 1/2 foot off my stopping. ifi can save 600 bucks for other mods i will anydays like i said i noticed no stopping difference at all with the swap and the car has made it to the track and frequently im fast driving never had one problem with braking at all

I originally went the el-cheapo route and threw on new Lincoln rotors and the FRPP rear 5-lug drum setup. Everything went on smoothly and it looked great with the 96 cobra wheels. I went to the dragstrip and after the first pass the rotors warped! My first thought was….are you f'ing kidding me!!! It's not like I laid on it extremely hard or anything. It was just a bit to much for the stock equipment to handle I suppose. Now I have a 99+ setup on it and the stopping power is magnificent! Virtually no fade compared to the fox setup…and the rotors won't warp nearly as easily.

Anyways...just throwing out my $.02 :nice:

I did my Bullitt brake swap for around $1000 and that was cheap compared to the $1800+ similar kit from Ford. Everything except the rear setup was brand new, too.

That included drilled/slotted rotors, Bullitt calipers, braided lines to replace my old busted ones, and so on. The rims were not figured into that cost since I basically bought them for what I sold my old set for.

It's easy to get a V6 donor and do it REAL cheap though, I almost went that route too.

Where did you get the "Bullitt" kit from (I think I may have asked you this before..forgive me if I have).

I found slotted rotors with 03 Cobra Calipers and hardware for 450 from musclemotors.com

I got a killer deal on some 17" wheels from a 97 gt, but they guy that was supposed to sell me the brake hardware punk'd out on me. :( now I am searching for another set.

I pieced it together from various sources, which is why it came out so cheap.

Mine is going to cost nearly an arm and a leg. I plan on cobra spec on front, and your basic disc on back. Since I have to get new axles(and since I have 450+rwhp) I might as well get 31 or 33 spine axles, which means beefing up the rear end. If thats not enough, the shocks/struts are ready to be replaced. Hell, might as well toss in some springs, caster/camber plates, and LCAs while I'm in there right? On the bright side, I already got my wheels. I picked up a set of 04 anniversary wheels with new tires(275 Nitto 555Rs out back, and 255 Kumho MXs on front) for $750.

I was lucky. The former owner of my car actually did the swap before I bought the car. He used '96 GT calipers and rotors in the front.

I found my Cobra calipers from a guy that was parting out a wrecked '98 Cobra on craigslist. He didn't know what he had.

I purchased the following for $400;
Cobra front calipers and rotors
Cobra rear calipers and rotors
Spindles
Cobra spare tire and wheel

I tried to find a used spare off of a Cobra and they went for $175 to $250. So having this guy include the spare with the brake parts was great.

It took some patients to waiting for a good deal on decent used parts verses buying a kit. I was close to buying new parts but this deal came at a good time.
