5 Speed from late 80's 4s & 6s

Noooooo!!! Don't do it!!! Just buy a new T 5 tranny! lol I have already had 2 trans go out on me, both from used junkyard cars. You would be wayyy better off to just buy a completely new or completely rebuilt tranny FOR the 5.0. I've learned not to skimp when it comes to trannies.

I'm pretty sure the 4 and 6cyl T5's won't work on a V8. You want a T5 from a V8 Fox, or you can get a T5 from a SN95 with the 5.0 engine (94-95).

I have mine from the 94-95.

The info I've read indicates that the '94+ V6 5 speed is rated at the same torque capacity as the '89 and earlier V8 T5 (295 lb-ft, if I recall).

Could not recall info on input length, but IF it also uses a longer input like the 5.0 tranny, it would seem to be a decent ,minimal effort swap for near-stock IIs. The upside is that they're relatively common in late-model salvage yards, and do not command a premium price like the V8 versions. A large national yard we use at work said they'd sell me a V6 tranny with under 100K for $350, includes a 180 day warranty.

Downside is you still have to make some mods, but the rpm drop would be nice for highway use.

My research found that the trannies from late model 4, and 6 cyl.
would easily handle a stock '77 302. I ended putting an 89 4 cyl T-5
behind my 76. I used the late model bellhousing and had to have a
machine shop press pilot bearing because the input shaft is skinnier.
The tranny was only $200. Everything seems fine....but

I just sold my house and put car into storage until spring, so I have yet
to see how she holds up. I figure that the worst case scenario is that
it breaks, and I have to put a new T-5 in. Well, I have already done all
leg work, and repositioned cross member, and moved interior hole and such.
So, for $200 I figured, what the hell. It should be an easy swap. The casings
are identical.
