500 hp?

Is it just me or what... I never said power to the rear wheels!! I understand you loose power throught the drivertrain. My method is the same as any other method that people use to rate the power at the flywheel its called a engine dyno The only assecories I will be running is the altrenator and the p/s pump. So yes I may loose 20-30 hp. Most people when they say they want 450 hp are talking about at the flywheel and not worried about all the little things that take 1 or 2 hp away that you will never feel. So let me be more pacfic in my hp rating I will make 417.9996782469 hp to the fly wheel on a monday at 12:32.39 P.M. april 22nd at 12ft above sea level in west palm beach FL when it is 91 degrees out. is that better.

So do you have your engine out of the vehicle? You do realize that if you are taking your car to a chassis dyno your numbers will be at the rear wheels, not the engine. Other things to consider is with the engine in the vehicle, you will also have h/p losses from your water pump (be it belt or electric driven) and radiator fan (again, belt or electric).

Another thing to consider is temperature and altitude are a moot point when dealing with a dyno as your results should be SAE corrected.

Most people when referring to dyno numbers are talking about rwhp/rwtq. It's the easiest way to establish baseline numbers with an engine already in the vehicle....and they are typically the numbers that are the "bottom line" in terms of determining performance.
 
Thank you all for stating the obvious. Yes the egine is out of the car Yes I know the power at the fly is not the same as the power at the wheels. yes I understand That accesories will rob power .I have not taken the engine to any sort of a dyno or the car. So i can not give exact numbers I was providing the man with a ball park of 450 hp becasue The set up I will be running is the same as another setup that was dynoed and made 455 hp at the fly from a reputiable source. I was just stating in my first post that it would be possible to get 500 hp out of the motor with a large increase in compression. The motor will make 450hp but it will not after you factor in all the power robbing accesories and drivetrain. The one poster asked for proof of the engine that could make 450 hp with that setup and I provided it. ANd then everyone here who seems to be dislexic found this thread. I never used the term rear wheel power net power or anything that implied a exact hp reading I was just giving a ball park of power at the fly. And to be honest people use both rwhp and bhp in stating the power of the engine. I am sure the starter of this post just wanted to get near the mark and was not worried if it was off by 20 either way. So get off it people

The ballpark is wrong for so many reasons. You cannot simply take what someone else's proven combo is and claim it for yours (aka, bench racing) as you did in your original post….especially when your combo's are not the same. Did you even notice that the link you provided had milled heads which upped the compression ratio to 10.5:1?

Just a heads up, when someone asks what their combo will dyno…99% of the time they are referring to RWHP. The only time BHP normally comes into play is when talking about OEM numbers…or occasionally when comparing back to back tests of heads, intakes etc. as shown in the link you provided.

Well Fine because you guys are so hell-bent on proving I will not make the 450 mark then I revoke my statement if that will help you guys sleep at night. But I still have the enjoyment that my setup will make more power than yours and it is eating you guys inside. By the way the setup they were using was running a 9.1:1 compression and the little exerte that stated the engine was 10.5:1 was if they were to run the heads milled but they did not they ran the 61cc head which gave them 9 to 1 the 58cc would have given them 10.5 to 1. You would know that if you read the article.

Perhaps you yourself should re-read the article. Several times they mention the heads had been milled and increased the c.r. to 10.5 to 1. Just one example is on page 171 in the 3rd column.

By the way, have fun trying to make more power than I am with your current combo. :D :nono:
 
these combos are 500 @ the fly wheel so maybe a 306 could get close to 450, but if that where the case lets consider about a 18% reduction from th fly wheel to the rear wheels and that would put the rwhp at 370. I just dont see it happening. The 2nd article is of a 347 that makes 421rwhp which is about 500 at the crank. As you can see the work is extensive.

I am having a Dart based 347 built now ( was going to be a 363 ) with TFS TW heads that will be worked, a custom cam, Victor 5.0 EFI intake, 9.5:1 comp and reving to 6500-7000 rpms ( NA ). I am hoping for close to 400rwhp on a dyno jet, but the car will be tuned on a Mustang Dyno so any thing above 350rwhp will be great. My bolt on stock headed 302 with 10lbs of boost made 368rwhp on a load bearing dyno and I just dont see a NA 306 making it there with out some serious money and parts into the top end.
