I had pressed my Band station by accident and it went to 550 AM and all I heard was a steady static....I had given it gas and it picked up, let off it went down, put on lights or any electric load it would buzz or hiccup in the sound, sounds funny actually. What is this a bad ground?

yeah what he said ^. if you have a system and it bothers you that much, there's a thing called a ground loop isolator radioshack sells (i work at radioshack) for $16.99. it's pretty much a filter you plug into the rca's coming off the back of your radio to the amp. i put one on my car, right before the rca's go to the amp. here's what it looks like:

The radio has wat is called an
automatic gain control AGC. Its function
is to adjust the tunner gain to pick up low far
away stations. At 550 there is probably no station there
so the AGC is cranked all the way up.
This results in picking up the static due to the
car running. You probably could even hear the
blinker or brake lite going on.

You should see less interference on strong stations.

The interference filter may help a bit.
