$6,000 enough for a 450-500hp 347 and a tremec tko600?

I know the question is dumb, just on a budget and I'm trying to achieve those numbers with my 94 GT. I want it to be reliable though so thats why i wanted to upgrade the transmission. Can the stock transmission handle that setup?

$6000 would be pressing it if you build the engine with good parts. The stock tranny will last if you dont beat it. Im making 500 hp and mine has lasted over 4000 miles and I give it plenty of WOT throttle.

judging by my recent experiences with 347 cost, unless you cut corners and go with quite a few economy parts (rods, pistons, etc.), there is no way you will be able to pick up a tko600 and the motor for anywhere close to $6000. even with the cut corners, it would be extremely difficult to do.

If your starting from scratch, $6,000 isn't even enough for just the 347 if you do it right.

WERD, unless you have some decent aftermarket parts on the car now that you can get some $$$ for (heads, intake, etc)

Ive been researching with Grn92LX help, and he's already done it, so believe us (him)

check into the foxlake motors, cant remember how much there 347 is.you could also try coast high performance for the motor,i looked at them also.if you want to save alittle cash, check into the gforce t-5 deal, they use your t-5 and you dont have to change all the stuff that you need to to use a tremec, and, from what ive read they are just as good as the tremec.thats the route im going when i get some more money

A econo 347 will cost almost $6K (not shipped) then add the cost of the tranny and now your close to $8K. If you have to have someone install this stuff now it's over $10K.

Are you talking about power to the wheels or the crank?

Get a catalog and price out the parts and add it up.

347 engine
Some good flowing heads like the afr 185/205
injectors
maf
intake
headers
tuning

Thats all I can think of right now.

No way, man. Sorry, but if you cut corners and try to do stuff on the cheap you will likely be sorry later down the road. My 347 project is pushing the $8000 mark without a new tranny. That does not include labor, but includes a complete Aeromotive Competition Fuel Kit, a UPR K member, A-arms, coilovers and CC plates, Koni Yellows, Eibach Springs, Tweecer RT, Innovate LM1, King Cobra Clutch, Fidanza aluminum flywheel, blah blah. Thats not even considering all the light fabrication work and small parts and adjustments needed to make things right.

If you choose to use your stock block, the numbers will be similar to this I guess. I would guess your machine work alone would be between $1800- 2500 depending on the shop. Quality parts will run about $1000-1200 for the rotating assembly, and then it needs to be installed, so figure $1000 on the low end. Thats not including shipping, or the tranny cost and labor to put that in. Figure in MAF, injectors, tuning, H/C/I, and your looking at about $9-10k easy I would guess.

it's the price of all the little parts that kill the buildup budget. as far as machine work, it seems to me you'd be better off buying a shortblock (from DSS or CHP or someone) for like $2500, sourcing some used H/C/I parts, and either letting your tranny stay stock or deal with a lower power level from the 347 and get your tko600. either that, or just buy a supercharger for now. i think with $6,000 you could get a pretty damn decent supercharger set up and tune and deal with your stock tranny for a while. Heck, MM&FF's did 10's with their "hooligan hot rod"...and that was basically a fairly stock motor. where there's a will there's a way, but again, you'll have to make trade offs with that budget and your wants. either that, or get free parts or have really good used parts hook-ups. trust me, budgets suck. as a starving college student i'm lucky to have a stang...and am stuck drooling and waiting for the money to come for more goodies! maybe just keep saving and get it all at once? or start buying piece by piece and the power will come sooner or later

I think you posted a similar ? a while back.

NA 347 would have to be VERY radical to push those # at the wheels. It would NOT be fun to drive

500hp and reliable in street trim costs $$$$.. and even more for the track.

I pushed about 20 passes at over 400 rwhp 420 rwtq with no issues from the stock T5. BUT I also had the original clutch that slipped just enough to prevent the trans from taking the full shock of the power. Add a grabby clutch and sticky tires say by by stock T5.

If you want power...get a used H/C/I setup and Blower. That would set you back around 4500-5500 depending on the deals you cut.

You could do it for 6k BUT you WILL be on borrowed time because you skimped somewhere in the build.
