6 cyl to 8 cyl conversion

I would like to convert my 6-cylinder 1967 mustang to 8-cylinder. Besides the engine what else needs to change? What parts would I need to gather together (i.e. if I need to change the brakes do I need the complete brake system hoses, spindles, master cylinder and all or just the drums/disks)? It currently has drums but I would like to convert to disks also.
 
There have been many threads about this subject...just do a search on engine swap. Judging from your questions, I'd guess you're pretty much a novice on this subject. I can only tell you the swap is fairly difficult and can be very pricey... I like V-8s, but the Mustang 6 cylinders run very well and hang right in there with stock 289 2-bbl models, for daily driving.
 
Unless you are planning on doing a full-body strip and restore, you would likely be farther ahead to sell the car and buy one with an 8. Or buy an 8cyl parts car if you can find one.

There are a lot of parts that need to be swapped and there's big investment in time and money.

Of course I'm doing it, but I'm taking my Mustang down to clean body panels anyway, so I'm going to get the required parts and re-install after the bodywork.

There have been lots of threads on this subject in this forum. Once you get past the naysayers and flamers you can find lots of information ont he subject. Also check out some of the many websites devoted to this subject and maybe save yourself some :bang:
 
Listen not to the naysayers!!!

I consider mine a pretty thorough swap, even though I did it in stages. Here's what all I've done as far as swap items and supporting drivetrain items.

351w, T5, frame mounts and motor mounts, radiator, granada spindles, new rotors, calipers, pads, bearings, brake hoses, new upper ball joints and lower balljoint/control arms, new a arm shafts and bushings, new spring perches, new springs and shocks, new tie rod ends, new strut rods, 8 inch rear end, new leaf springs, new driveshaft, new wheels for five lug (Prostars now), new rear brake shoes and drums and rear brake hardware, monte carlo bar.

Other than that, most of the rest of my stuff was specific to my T5 swap or my serpentine setup.

Pretty much just a front end rebuild, disc swap, and a v8 rear.

I don't know why so many people make it out to be a horrible task. It was a very fun learning experience. I guess some just don't like working on cars as much as others.

Nope, not for me anyway, its that I've seen too many cobbled together or unfinished messes. They're just trying to prepare him for a big project (not knowing his level of skill).

Anyway, be sure not to cut any corners and just enjoy.
