I have a 64 1/2, 289 "D" code engine with original sump. The shop manual states I require 4.7 litres of Engine Oil. I have just completed an oil change and after adding 2.5 Litres of oil, the dipstick registers as full.

Which do I trust - the dipstick or the shop manual??

cheers

The manual is correct. Have you successfully emptied the sump and replaced the filter? The oil filter retains about 0.75 L.
