Any guys out there got any pictures of '65 rear valances with exhaust protruding through them, GT style, with and without reversing lights. I'm trying to decide which way to go.

I don't have reverse lights and wish I did sometimes. Backing out in a busy parking lot is difficult, because nowadays people don't expect to see a car without them and won't let you in and at night you can't see a thing behind you in the side mirrors. One of the members here put those small halogen fog lights behind the stock trim ring housing. It looked good and would definitely be bright enough.

Probably not the best shot--65' with no BU lights:

Thanks for all the photos guys.

You've convinced me. I really like the GT exhaust set up. I'm about to order my replacement rear valance and I've seen the trim rings and exhaust tips which I will be able to order when I get the bodywork painted.

I'm I right in assuming that any capable exhaust shop should be able to pipe up the tips to my existing dual exhaust set up? Are there are traps or typical mistkaes with this conversion which I should be aware of?

Make sure they leave enough clearance on the driver side so the tail pipe doesn't hit the spring or the gas tank. It's kinda tight in there.

Step back and look at them from all angles to make sure they got 'em centered and the stick out the same amount and angle.

The GT exits look sharp, but if it's off a little, everyone will notice (especially you)

It also is a good thing to have them out about an inch further than stock so the exhaust won't have have a tendency to fill the trunk with fumes as it permeates up behind the valance. My local restorer insists on it. They also look good with straight chrome pipe cut at angle to match the valance as opposed to the factory trumpets which get condesation in the rolled edge and will rust.

I did it and love the way it looks. I suggest you test fit the panel and trim rings before paint because I had to elongate holes for the panel to body fit and do quite a bit of file fitting for the rings to fit the repro stuff. The SS tips are stock LX I got from a buddy. I'll post the PIC if I can get it to resize, having problems getting it small enough

I have a new GT rear valance w/no tail lights & will swap for a standard valance w/no tail lights. Changed my mind, 2 1/2" pipes are tight fitting through on the drivers side. I want to do a half moon cut out at the bottom edge of the valance so the tail pipe is half recessed into the valance. Then I'll use half a trim ring around it.

I removed the original rear apron last night and have ordered the new GT apron from NPD, with reversing light openings, my preference.

When I removed the original apron there were two brackets for the bumper guards. I haven't received the new apron yet, but I'm guessing that the bumber guards are in the same position as where the pipes are going to come through, and the brackets will have to be removed.

Yes you will have to remove the bumper guard brackets. The tips I got from a friend who put on an aftermarket exhaust on an 87-93 LX. They are 2.25" which I just cut off the SS portion that was straight and adapted to the stock type 2" duals that is on the car. I plan to do the entire exhaust later after the tranny and headers. Unfortunately no one makes a GT kit that has this style tip, I really like the angle cut look
