New to the forum. Hoping to find some tech advice? Rebuilding 289 in 66 coupe. Have made some modifications, bored .030, flat top pistons, GT40P heads, headers, Edelbrock performer with 600 Holley. Looking to add HEI distributer. Purchased MAXX Blue HEI supposed to fit small block ford engines. Won't fit. Bushing housing too big to fit into block and oil pump drive bigger than drive rod. I have been looking at comments threads on CJ, MAXX, Summit, etc. that sell this distributer and no one has had this problem. Anyone know anything about this.
Thanks for any info on this
Bob

Hey if its wrong its wrong.

Carb289/302 distributors are mildly different than 5.0 roller cam distributors.
Different cam gears for roller and non roller.

The following is a couple of online quotes I found....
......................................................................
68-82 small block 289-302/5.0l has a distributor shaft diameter of 0.467", gear is 1.249".

83-present small block 5.0/ all 351w uses a 0.531" shaft, same 1.249 gear.
................
The 351W has a smaller 1.245” diameter distributor gear, and the 351C has a larger 1.418” diameter distributor gear. Each engine has a 5/16” oil drive
................
351W's use a 5/16" oil pump driveshaft while all the other small block Fords, 260, 289, 302, 5.0, all use 1/4" size driveshaft.

Thanks for that info. Going by those measurements they sent me a 351W distributor. It never occurred to me that it may be a 351. Purchased from MAXX Performance Products on Ebay. I will contact them and see what they can do. I'll keep you posted. Again, thank you for your help
