Hey,
Today I went to help my friend install a water pump and radiator in this 66 mustang gt he bought. It is supposedly a 289 but it is old and used so who really knows.. Heres the deal: The mustang had a waterpump with the lower hose connecting on the driver side and a two row radiator. The one that was supposed to go on(whatever mustang place he ordered it from says it is the right one for a 66) has the lower hose on the passenger side and a 4 row radiator. Unfortuneately the water pump will fit onto the timing cover, but then the power steering and alternator do not mount up correctly with the brackets that are on there now. Does anyone have a good picture of how the accesories and waterpump are set up on a stock 66 289?

Something is amiss....in 66 the 289 engines had passenger side exit on the water pump which means both radiator hoses are on the same side of the radiator. Either the engine has been changed or the front dress has....what is the fifth character of the VIN?

Im not sure, I'm not with the car anymore. I bet it has the wrong engine in it. He just paid $20k for this car, (Its a clean convertible and supposedly a GT, but isnt that high?)youd think they would have mentioned something? I just need to figure out if he can just buy the correct brackets and put it back the way it goes or if its going to take more.

I tried to call him he wasnt home. I'll get it later. They also told him it had been rebuilt 30K miles ago and I doubt it. The water pump and thermostat bolts were so corroded that 1 broke off (yes drilling, broken eZ-outs and more drilling. Fun!)and I had to work the rest out very carefully. At least the one that broke just went into the timing cover and not the block :) Thanks for your help.
