I found a 289 v8 out of a 64 ford galaxi i was wondering if i could swap it out for the inline 6 I have in my 66 mustang right now also could i keep the same suspension and transmission in that i have now or would I have to change it
thanks = D
The simple answer is yes. You would need the V-8 motor mount towers and motor mounts. The small wiring harness for the engine or cut and splice the one you have. The transmission bell housing for a V-8 and flywheel and a larger V-8 radiator. Your front suspension will be a bit more bouncy if you do not change it and lets face it four lug wheels are ugly. There will be other nickle and dime stuff so be prepared to spend about $300-$400 assuming your 289 is just going to drop in without rebuild.
The six cyl transmissions (automatic) have held up to stock 289/302's for me in the past but I would not trust it for any extra HP/Torque. I am not a Tranny expert so I am not shure of the internal differences between the V8 and 6Cyl versions. It only makes sence to me the 6Cyl version would be a little lower geared and maybe smaller friction bands. Some expert will chime in on this soon I imagine.
