Hello all--

The GT did something interesting today--twice--while headed into
town. I was driving along and it just shut off, once at about 15 mph
and once at about 35 mph. No coughing/sputtering. Just like you had
turned the key off. I coasted for a minute, shifted into N and it
fired right back up. It wasn't particularly hot, for Louisiana,
either. All of my gauges seemed to be in line.

The battery is showing 12.4 across the posts and 14.2 at idle. I
thought my battery/alternator might be causing trouble, but the
battery seems to knock that thought. Haven't added anything new to
the car either. The ignition was replaced with a motocraft replacement about a year ago.

Ideas?

I would start by replacing the solenoid.

Try the wire to the +. The little caps sometimes become loose and while wiggle around, kill the car, but start right up. Wiggle it by hand to see how tight it is. Either way I would take it off the coil, and pinch it a little with some pliers to make sure she's snug. I've seen this scenerio a few times.

Thanks!

I'll try the + side tomorrow. That's an easy check. Anything else while I'm looking?

Try replacing the wire from the coil to distributor mine had a damn short and did the same thing. thats an ignition problem. Also check the neutral starter safety switch. If those pigtails are rubbing on the exhaust manifold it will do the same thing.
