I am stumped with this problem. I am working on a 66 vert 289. The temp gauge sweeps and pegs when the key is on. The oil pres gauge sweeps and pegs after it starts. I proved out all the wires from the senders to the back of the dash panel. I got 12v from the back of the ign sw to the constant voltage regulater and 12v out of the constant voltage regulater to the gauges. I even proved the ground from the dash panel to the chasis.
The gauges drop when unplugged from the senders. Swapped new senders with another set of fresh new senders from Car Quest. The senders are for 66 289 with gauges. Checked twice. The dash panel is a stock 66 gauge panel.
Neither of the two lines are shorted eithernor do they carry any voltage when disconnected from the sender and the back of the gauge.
Both gauges sweep when grounded as they should and drop to zero when ungrounded.
Ammeter works great. Fuel gauge works great. Everything else on the car works perfectly.
ANy ideas?
