67 Coupe Roof is fiberglass . . .

I bought a 67 Mustang Coupe (with vinyl top) for the purpose of restoring as a daily driver.

The roof panel is rusted through with several holes 1 inch in diameter or more in some spots. I expected some rust as the vinyl tops trap moisture, however I did not expect that the prior owner had fiberglassed over the rust. Yup, the entire roof panel is fiberglassed right over the rusted panel.

A few questions:

Do I chop the top and find a donor car to weld in a new panel? or leave it as it is?

Are there any after market parts manufacturers making a roof panel for the 67 Coupe? I've not found any.

I'm about to media blast the body and will be curious how the fiberglass holds up. I'm actually wondering if I just leave it as is to be honest but I think my conscious will get to me.

A new roof is available from Dynacorn. You can do a dealer search by zip code on their website to find the closest dealer to you. It is a lot of work to replace, but will be worth doing it right. Remember, rust is like an ice burg, you only see the top third.

awesome. This is the last piece I need. All other areas have been replaced with new metal. I've been searching for some time now and thought I'd have to resort to chopping a donor car. Good to see that Dynacorn has begun to reproduce this panel.

Yeah, I just called and indeed they only sell the panel for the fastback. Bummer.

Looking for a donor now. I agree that replacing is the best option. I've gone this far and put new metal all over and so leaving the roof as is would be ashame.

You should PM me your phone number. I have a roof from a 68 Coupe for you. It is currently still on the back half of a car that is destined to become a trailer. The windshield pillars are cut about 6"-8" from the bottom. Generally rust free other than a little surface crap on the inside. Shipping might be a bit of a bear but I'd probably let you have for CHEAP!

no problem. Actually, they had a product number for this panel but when I called they said it must have been a mistake. If you search their site today you can still find that the panel exists according to their catalog but alas it does not in reality.
