67 Front Seat Bottom Recover - Stretch Question

Hi,
I was looking for some confirmation of what I have to do next on a front seat recover job on a 67 standard coupe.

I'm using new seat foamfrom TMI for a 67, no imbedded listing wires. The seat covers are Distinctive Industries standard for 67 coupe. I've attached a picture of where I need to hog ring the rear edge of the seat cover. Everything I see in pictures on the internet seems that I need to hog ring that edge to the springs. However, it's a 'long' stretch to get the rear edge to the springs.



Obviously, if that's where I need to get the edge to, I'll figure a way. However, seems like this TMI foam and the Distinctive Industries covers aren't the friendliest combo. Even with all the forum advice about how hard the upholstery process is, this just seemed a stretch beyond normal. But maybe not.

It is possible that you do not have the cover back far enough. You do need to stretch it a bit to make it reach and the spring will pull back a bit .I like to let the covers set in the sun for a bit ,it makes them more flexible .Try working the cover towards the back you may gain a little

Thanks horse sence. I put them in the cooker that is the afternoon sun in Austin and my wife and I were able to stretch them the distance.
Whew! Miller time.

I noticed when the covers are heated a bit they go on easier and usually smoother . A hair dryer works well also ,just don't get them to hot, use a low setting .

The last new seat foam I got was A LOT thicker than the original. As in hit my head on the roof too tall. Your foam may need a shave if it is like that. Try sitting on the seat without it all tied up before killing the vinyl.

Check out the facebook page for my shop in my sig. I have re skinned several older car seats. Pretty much as long as the seams and piping line up right, attach the hog rings where you can put them. Glad the sun worked out for you. I ALWAYS lay out new seat skins and headliners out in the sun for a few hours.

@flststang65 Poorly copied parts do not diminish your skills. I still say make sure he can still sit in the car before stretching covers a LONG way.

I have re skinned a lot of seats using both Distinctive industries and TMI ,Foam and seat covers , and would hardly call either poorly copied . I would rate TMI as much better though. New foam will be somewhat thicker as the old foam has compacted from years of being squished from our big ole butts .With out hands on it is hard to explain exactly what needs to be done but if the covers are not positioned correctly they will not fit the way they should .
