I'm thinkin about throwing some money into my 289 67 mustang. want to get a new 4 barrel carb and intake for it but dont want to spend too much. stock 2 barrel on it now. what do you guys recommend? also thinking about getting new headers. heard the tri ys are the way to go. thoughts?

thanks,
Matt

if you are planning future upgrades, get a performer rpm intake and 600cfm edelbrock carb to go with the tri-y headers. that will cover any future mods with in reason.

if no future upgrades then a performer intake with a 500cfm carb to go with the tri-y headers.

I pretty much agree, but my suggestions would be:
If you are planning future upgrades, get a performer rpm intake and Holley 570cfm Street Avenger carb to go with the tri-y headers. That will cover any future mods with in reason.

An Edelbrock Performer 289 intake is a great starting point, though if you're upgrading further a Performer RPM intake isn't a bad way to go. I run the Performer 289 with a Carter (Edelbrock) 600cfm carb with great driveability, response, and power, and am averaging 17,9mpg over the last two months since I got it properly tuned.

I'm with D Hearne. 570 SA and a Stealth (or Performer RPM). It's mostly personal preference though.

Of course knowing nothing about the car, you may want to think about a gear change first. If you're running a 2.79 open rear and a C4...

I'm currently running a Holley 4160 600 CFM and an Edelbrock Performer 289 intake... does OK all though I've just ordered an Air Gap intake and EFI upgrade. You can see my signature for a link to my dyno results from a few years back.

Best of luck...
