We are making one good car out of two, one is a V8 car and the other is a 6 cyl. The 6 cyl car is the main car, but alot of the components are going to be from the V8. We would use the V8 car to begin with, except that the frame is bent pretty good, much more than just the pillar. The engine compartment from the v8 is in very good shape and the rear is in good shape. Basically, the front and rear of the car (not including frame rails of course) will be from the V8 and the middle section from the 6 cyl. so can we use the v8 VIN? If so, where other than on the fender apron are the VIN's stamped? I am going to run a check against both VIN's today to ensure they are clear titles. Thanks.

If I remember correctly the actual VIN system wasnt started until 1968. I beleive that number in the engine compartment is just a build number that ends up getting used for its ID number.

That number is also on a plate located on the rear of the driver's door.

Thanks. That means that if the door tag and the engine compartment are changed, it should be fine for the car?

I have an all original 67 coupe. There is a door tag with the vin # on it underneath the door latch area. (You can even have the vin plates reproduced from mustang shops).

There is #'s stamped into the front drivers side fender apron but they dont correspond with the vin #. My car is a "C" code car which there is a "C" in the # on the fender apron but the rest doesnt match.

The car is going to be worth more if you use the V8 VIN! If the fender aprons are going to be changed why even worry about the # that is stamped on them?

I would make sure your title matches the door tag because sometimes people swapped doors from other models but left the VIN plate on them!

Well that is sort of my question, the door tag has already been removed so all that is left is the fender apron VIN, so if they match is that all that is required? What are the legalities of doing a fender apron swap and getting a new door tag printed up to match?
