Were all 68 1/2 CJ's GT's? I'm assuming not but would like to know for sure. Did they all come with a dash tach and were they 8,000 rpm tachs? The reason I'm asking is that I found one that is solid but needs to be restored. He doesn't want to sell it but I might try to see if he'll change his mind.

It's a true R for sure. He has the Marti to back everything up with. In place of the 428 sits a 427 side oiler. It doesn't have the ram air but has the original hood with the hole in it. It has the extra steel plate around the shock towers too. I know it's a GT per the Marti report but the few 68 1/2 CJ cars that I have saw have all been GT's. Just curious if most of them were GT's or all of them. The tach is an 8,000 rpm tach and I thought that the big blocks were 6,000. I've thought wrong before though.

I'll buy it if he'll sell it. That is if it is a reasonable price. The hard part will be convincing him to sell it.

The plates on the shock towers is a gooooood sign. My 68 Gt500KR has a 8k tach. As far as all of them being a GT, I'm just not sure. These are very rare cars to say the least, and of course, they command mucho bucks. Does he have a "I will turn loose of it for that" price? Restored correctly, I see the market price well in the 6 digit range. Good luck and stay on it. I snoozed one time for just a day and missed a 66 GT350 for a couple thousand bucks. I still have nightmares about this. So, go for it. :nice:

He hasn't even mentioned selling the CJ but has a 67 S code fastback that he wants to sell. He hasn't actually put a price on it though. I'm just wondering that with a little coaxing that he may sell the CJ. I haven't checked it out with a fine tooth comb but it appears to be very straight and solid. It is an ex drag car because it has holes cut in the inner apron for headers and brackets welded underneath for ladder bars. It is an original 4 speed car. It has had rear quarter lips worked on to clear wide slicks. It has the vin in the windshield with an R and the door tag shows the correct info. He's had it since the mid eighties so I have no reason to believe that it is not a true R code car. I just wondered about the originality of the 8,000 tach but if your 500 KR has it I'd say it is the right one. Thanks for the info and I'm going to try my best to get it. In fact if he's home I'm going back to talk to him later on today. He lives about 15 miles from me. If I can't buy that one I may try for the S code. It has rust in it but doesn't seem too bad.
