So i was getting in my car today with a friend. She rolled down her pass side window while we were driving. That was fine. When i got home i tried to role up the window it went halfway and then something broke, and the window is now loose on the back half. I can take the whole back half out but nothing seems to be broken. My window needs to be aligned and the window fixed. How do I do this?? And how do i get those door panels off?? I unscrewed everything, and took out the pins but the top still seems to be stuck I am stumped.

The top is a metal peice that has one screw in each end that needs to be taken out, also you need to take the lock cap off and then it should just slide right off, it helps if you have the window all the way down for that part, then the vinyl comes off by prying the clips out of the door. (but make sure you take the armrest and window crank off first  )

Now about the window itself, I see you own a 69 so it should be a 'glue in' window, therefore you will need some adhesive, and alot of patience!! really all you have to do is glue it back into the window mechanism and you are good to go, just follow the door panel steps in reverse order to put your door back together! (i have done this a few times can you tell??) :nice:

If the window does need to be glued back in, you’re in for a treat. Getting my windows correctly aligned and glued in place was THE most frustrating thing I have ever done when it comes to any car I have ever worked on. You need about four sets of hands. I think I glued them three times before I got them right, well to my liking anyway.

I used windshield urethane glue on mine last year and they’re still in place.

By the way, now would be a real good time to replace the window weather stripping. Better to adjust and glue the window in to work with new stripping rather than possibly have to redo it later if you decide to replace the stripping later.

A popular mod is to change over to the 70 style bolt in windows. You need the glass, tracks and regulators from a 70.

Cool Guys thanks for your help. I hope to get started on it this weekend. Is it expensive though?? And where can i get the glue. Im new to this so tell me, this isn't something a professional can do, or can a normal person do this with enough patience?

I hope you have greater patience then I did. This same thing happen to me with my driver side window but is was the front of the window that came off of the track. After trying it myself twice I paid a window shop to do it and three tries later it stuck but now the weld in the center joint of the window crank has become loose and I dont know how to fix that, with out buying a new one. This is the center of the X that rolls up the window. Thus the front of the window has popped out of the track again. It is a up hill battle.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, glue in windows bite………

I got the windshield urethane I used at the local parts store. I used 3m brand. It comes on a tube like caulk. I think I paid $20 for it. I’m not saying that’s the best stuff to use. I used it and it’s worked for a year with no problems.

One more thing to think about is the use of your windows. The less stress on them the better. Always have the windows fully up or down when closing the door. I’ve been told this will extend the live of any re-glue job.

Also, if you use the urethane, ware gloves. It’s black and don’t come off your skin too easily.

Good luck…….
