69 Tach Cluster into non-tach car

Does anyone have a schematic for installing a original 1969 tach cluster into a car that did not originally come with a tach and still has the non-tach wiring harnesses? Thanks,

I don't know if you were sent a link already. I don't have one to the page on this computer so i will post it up tomorrow for you. It os fairly simple you just redo teh wiring order on the clip and splice in the pigtail into the ignition wire.

Now, about the amp guage... Just kidding. I have a Shelby style console guage pod and it is covered....

That was also the link I was going to post. Let us know how it all ends up working out. I have already rewired the whole thing problem is I don't have a tach cluster to go in its place nor do I have an engine that I can start and test it with yet. Heheheh.

Good luck finding an affordable tach dash. I've seen em go for up to $1500 on ebay.

I can relate--my car is 100% disassembled except for doors and trunk lid bolted on for quarter panel fitment. Even the engine is apart! I do already have the tach cluster though...

I consider getting these instructions "motivation" to get going on my project!

I know this is getting ridiculous. Although I haven't seen one get up that high yet I see them for around $800 these days. I was watching them last year and they ranged between $350-$450 tops. I don't know what happened over the last year it makes me regret not buying one earlier. Or a couple of them they would have been a good investment.

69rustang I know what you mean. Mine is on its way though and should be done by the end of the month i hope, but then again I haven't met one deadline I have set for myself yet.

I changed from non tach to a tach cluster this winter. I used the Boss 302 registry link as guidance, but I don't thave the pink resistor wire that is described there. Anyway, the tach don't work yet, but with an ballast resistor between the coil and tach wire, it probably will. It works when I put an circuit tester between the coil and the tach wire. But if you got your car 100% disassembled, why don't you just get the correct wiring harness? It may suck installing it, but your system may work trouble-free.

The wiring harness modification is almost free. To buy a correct harness is going to cost about $500 (Ebay) for just the under dash portion. The under dash part is not available new yet. I would also need the underhood wiring that is another $100 or so which is available new. I learned not so recently that my wife notices chunks of change missing from the checking account. So, let's start with free stuff...

Cheap stuff huh!!

I have done this swap several times. I even put a Cougar XR-7 tach dash in a 70 vert once! A cheap trick for the amp gauge wiring is this....Nearly every
car or truck with a V8 or straight 6 till about 1983 used the voltage regulator harness that will allow you to use the AMP light. Think about it...the Mustang one with the amp gauge is the odd one. If it had an AMP light(which most did)
it may have the correct regulator harness. I even got the "Big Pink Wire" frm an 84 F-150.
Also from the same truck I got an intermittant wiper switch, bolted right up!
Need an ashtray for the back of your console? Ford vans used them in the side panels for the back...so did some wagons. Need new bulbs and sockets for your 69/70 dash????? Got a handful from a 91 Escort dash!!
Another good trick is a switch in the big pink wire. Single pole double throw..
One pole is normal operation.. the other way is hooked up to a relay that honks the horn. Change the connector on the coil so it cannot be removed, but can still be jumpered. Someone pops the hood and runs a jumper wire to the coil and the horn (or other device) goes off every time they hook it up!!
