Has anyone replaced the stock 6x8's in the mach 460 with 6x9's. I know I will have to cut the plastic housing to fit them, I'm curious if it would be worth it. I have a set of Pioneer 4-way 6x9's sitting around. What do you think?
Worth it? Doubtful. The only upgrade I'd consider doing to my 460 is to upgrade it to 1000. Otherwise, I think it's a fine system. I am not an audio expert, but I'm quite satisfied with the performance of the 460 system.
If what you have are just some run of the mill ol Pioneer 6X9 (like +-$100 speakers), I really wouldn't bother. If you notice any difference, it likely would not be a good difference.
the stock speakers aren't that great, those Pioneers would be a huge improvement. Only problem is the impedence of the stock speakers. I think they are 3ohms as compared to 4 ohms like most auto audio speakers...but should be just fine. Many have just swapped the speakers for improved sound quality.
the actual install shouldn't require much cutting either. let us know how it turns out.
