70-79 TRUCK 2 SPEED/INTERMITENT WIPER MOTOR IN TO A 1966 MUSTANG

I have been following a few post regarding this swap in another forum. I looks like a 70-79 F SERIES (Maybe some others)wiper motor and switch it's compatible with the 64 and later mustangs. I have heard of this swap before in a 66 bronco. It's only compatible with the single speed mounting bracket because the dual speed mounting holes in the bracket are spread in a different pattern. The benefit of having intermittent wipers it's a most here in the tropic were we get sporadic rains every day. Has anyone here tried this swap? If so are there any improvements in speed? My original dual speed has slow and crawl speeds. It almost looks like my old single speed was faster. I have installed another motor but no improvements in speed. Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, your post is a little confusing for me. I've heard of the intermittent 2 speed wiper switch which we (my father and I) did using one of the how-to's I found on the internet.

As for the wiper motor itself, I've never heard that they are swapable. The discussion of wiper motor speed has come up before and several most '65-'66 folks indicated their wiper motors were plenty fast already. I personally found the wiper motor on my Mach severely lacking when compared to late model cars, so my father found a junkyard solution by swapping in a '90s Escort wiper motor which is nearly twice as fast as the original motor. You can see some of the details of this wiper motor swap on my website... check the links in my sig.

Ultimately, you should be able to find some schematics or how-tos with a bit of a search of the internet. Sadly I've lost the link to the site I used...

Hope this helps...

Here is a Pic of all the diferent motors and brackets so you will see the diferences between all.

My question is simple. I will like to know if the newer 70-79 F 250 motor is faster than my original 2 speed or single speed setup.

Also what other motors, cars, years fit the same bracket. I got the one in the picture from Western Auto. it's a remanufatured unit from Cardone but after close inspection it's an original Ford remanufactured by them and fit's the single speed bracket perfectly. The drawback is... cost. $89.95 + $10.00 for the core.

As asecond note, all the people that have the original Dual Speed Motor setup in their stangs won't be able to use the motor due to the physical configuration of the Parking Switch which is external to the motor assembly.

This topic has come up here a few times, but usually fizzles out when the discussion turns to the wiring harness or the wiper motor. I'll happily bump this thread back to the top, in hopes that it'll get a bit more attention.

As for your question, IIRC, the truck motor is a bit faster than the '65-'66 2-speed motor. I had a '79 F-100 with the interval wipers, but didn't know at the time that it might be a parts source for my '65 Mustang.

More recently, I picked up an F-100 interval wiper control box and wiper switch; now I've got to figure out which truck wiper motor can be used in the 'stang (it currently has a 2-speed factory setup).

How about some links to those other threads that you've been reading on this subject?

Thanks!
