Correct me if I'm wrong - fuel tank from 1970 Mustang will fit in 1968 Fastback (but it's larger capacity). If I do that I need 1970 fuel pickup, right?
yea you need the '70 pickup. The tank fits without a hitch as I have a 1970 tank in my '66. In hindsight though 22 gallons is way too much fuel and I should have gone with the '69's 20 gallon tank instead. Oh well though.

Does anyone have dimensions of the 20 gal and 22 gal tank? I'm looking for how high they stand above the flange. The top of the '68 tank is basically flush with the flange, and is the lowest point of the trunk floor. I'm guessing the 20 gal tank is a couple of inches taller, and might be a good fit for the '68 floor, maybe making everything closer to level.

Easy to guesstimate. The 70 tank top was level with the trunk floors. The 69 was about halfway between the 68 and 70. The bottom, of course, was the same 64-70.
Nothing wrong with a bigger tank - helps launch, weight distribution
the bigger tank should help weight distribution, too . . . nothing wrong with adding a little useful sprung weight to the back there. It should balance the car better and give you more cruising range and less time at the pump . . .
