a buddy of mine is giving a 302 from his 71 bronco was wondering if i could rebuild this engine and use it my 93 stang by using fuel injection intake upper and lower? was also wondering if it would bolt right up to AOD in the car now........thxs

Your intake will work. just use the ford racing cam you have now and it will work as long as the cam you have now has the 351 firing order it will work with your computer in your car. and you can run your intake with the 71 motor and the AOD trans will bolt up to your motor.

The 71 302 will bolt in to the car and trans, and such, but there are some things that will have to be addressed.

The 71 is a flat tappet cam block and your 5.0 roller lifters will not fit, so you will need a flat tappet cam, and a distributor or dist gear to match the cast iron cam, vice the steel one from the roller 5.0. Or a retro roller cam setup. Either the old 289/302 firing order or the 5.0 one works, just have to match the cam. If efi, you most likely would want to use the later one.

It is also a 28 oz balance motor, so you will have to use the 71, or at least a pre 80 flexplate and balancer, the late 5.0 items will be out of balance. Should be easy, but you may have to hunt down a 28 oz balancer with 4 bolt holes to use the late pulleys.

Gotta change to the Mustang oil pump pickup and pan. Note that that block may not have a dipstick hole in the block, it will need a pan mounted dipstick or such. Orig dipstick should be in the timing cover.

Otherwise it should work. I am trying to go the other way, putting a roller block into my carbed old school 82, and figuring out what to change.

You can run a roller cam in an older block but you will need a roller camshaft conversion kit the part#M6253A50 and you will need to get some roller lifters. This kit will allow you to run a roller cam and once again you can not use the 289/302 firing order if you are going to use your fuelinjection . That's why you should use a roller cam with the 302HO/351 firing order because if you want to run your 5.0 intake plus fuelinjection that's the firing order that's programed into your cars factory computer. The 289/302 firing order will not work with your factory computer and fuelinjection. So use a cam like the b303 or e303 and that will work with your computer plus fuelinjection. And for the distributor you can use the factory 5.0 mustang TFI because that will work with your car's factory wiring system and your car's computer and will work with the roller cam. Check out mustangsunlimited.com for the parts that you need good luck.

If you use the conversion kit, you need to run a reduced base circle cam, or the link bar (expensive!) lifters. The lifter bores aren't tall enough in the early blocks, so the lifter oil holes will be exposed and bleed down with a regular roller cam and stock type lifters.

Okay here's a good roller cam he can run with that 71block plus that roller cam conversion kit. It' a LUNATI part#LU51013. The specs are 270/279 duration and 455/477 lift and that will work good with fuelinjection and has the 302HO/351 firing order plus it will not cause any problems because it's just a little bigger than stock and he shouldn't have no problems with the lifter bores being too short. Plus the cam sounds great plus it makes okay power.
