71 -73 Steering Problems

The pitman arm and idler arm on my '73 are shot and the steering box leaks. I have rounded up a new pitman arm--so no problem there. The problems lie with the idler arm and the steering box.

The idler arm I got from Autozone was definitely not the right one. Their computer specs the same one for manual or P/S--either way it doesn't fit a P/S car. Does anyone sell a new idler/center link bushing that I could just replace that bushing? That appears to be all that is wrong with mine. If not, any ideas where to get one that doesn't cost a fortune?

On the steering box--it seems solid but leaks. I bought a seal kit for the power steering box but I found that you need special tools to take it apart. Has anyone replaced the seals on their 71-73 steering box and have useful advice they could share on how it is done?

Thanks for any help!!!

i got some new idler arm bushings from a local parts store. you should be able to do the same. you will need to press them in, so be sure to have a good c clamp, vice, or similar to install the bushing.

interested in an entire PST front end rebuild kit? i have one taking up space in the basement. :)

I just got a rebuilt steering box from advance auto, for my 69.Under 200.00 and no shipping .They want as much for a core charge as the rebuilt unit.I havent hooked it up yet,but the one I have is making metal to metal noises when turned. 75 mustangII
