71 mach 1 - need front suspension advice

  • Sponsors (?)

Those 460s are heavy, but powerful. Get beefy front springs, and a large front sway bar to keep things level. You're going to want to do something about the rear spring rate too. You might call mustangs plus and see what they recomend.

Course you need to consider your cars use.

A lot of people with earlier Mustangs go with a Mustang II front suspension. Currently, I don't think there is anything available for the 71-73 cars, but here is a link to a place that sells a complete kit and compents for a Mustang II. It only says its for up to 70 Mustangs, but you might be able to call them and see if it can be modified for your car. Not sure how it will work with a heavy 460 based engine though.

The 71-73 was designed to work with the 429 (1971) so you can use the big block factory springs. I lowered my 72 and put large (r) sway bars front and rear. I also have a 67 with a 460 and did the MII suspension conversion, mostly to gain room for the engine, not handling.
