just got a 74 mustang (coupe) for my little brother. are their any exterior mods that i can do. any pics or sites that i can got to

You may be able to put on a chin spoiler, not sure with the 74 as is a little different than the 75-78s. Wheels are a challenge but can be done if you measure twice before you cut. You can also put an aftermarket rear wing on it also.

What would you like to do to it?

i know there is not much you can do with a 74 coupe. but will the cobra kits fit on it if not might do a little fiberglassing of my own.

The standard Cobra front spoiler might the rear won't without some work. You could put a King Cobra front spoiler and rear wheel spats on it maybe a rear wing from a T-bird.

There's really no sources for new parts for these cars. What makes it even harder for you, is the 74 was different than 75-78, so it has many unique parts on it, like the nose.

Honestly, the best place to look is ebay. There are lots of Mustang II guys that part out cars and there are often lots of OEM parts for sale there.

There's nothing really aftermarket for the body, and the 75-78 body stuff would require modification to fit properly.

so what is the difference between the 74 and the 75-78. it might be a 77 coupe so how would i tell the difference have not got a title for it yet.

The front header panel and the gas cap location are the easy ones to spot. Header on the 74 is about 3" wide 75-78 abot 1.5" wide. The gas cap on the 74 is lower than 75+ also. But even without the title the VIN will tell you what year it is.

The changes were made to wedge the 302 V8 into the II. The 1974 II only had a choice of 2.3l 4cyl and 2.8l 6cyl. The rad suport in a 1974 is much different. The hood is also longer and lower on a 1974. You can put a V8 in a 1974 however it takes quite a bit of work. If you want to put a V8 in it, just ask guys on this forum they have done it before.

i think it has a 2.8 in it. i think it is a 74, so are those the only major differences on the cars. does the interior interchange? or did that change too

Everything else should interchange. If it has a V6 it is a 2.8l if it has a 4cyl it is a 2.3l. the only other option would be a 5.0l 302 V8 (from 75-78). Only these three engines were offered from 74-78.: D

Most parts interchange between all 5 years, but there are many small differences from year to year. Most of them are cosmetic, but some of them are not. The 74 has a different steering wheel and dash face (the wipers are in the dash, not on the lever like 75-78), and the dash pad has some different attachment screws. Most of the other interior stuff interchanges. The front fenders, hood, and header panel assembly are unique to the 74. The 74 also has the gas cap UNDER the body line (unless the 1/4 has been replaced with the newer style).

Drivetrain wise, the 2.3 4 cyl would be standard, with an optional 2.8 V6. If it's a Mach1, then it would have the 2.8, as that was the standard motor for the Mach. The V8 wasn't offered in 74.

Just a point of clarification - the early 1975 models still carried the '74 dash. My 1975 2+2 fastback was built on November 11, 1974. It still has the wiper switch on the dash. The 1975 Ghia we picked up last October was built in June 1975. It has the wiper switch is on the turn signal lever.

i know for a fact that it has a 2.8 v6. so my best bet for interior would be to go to a junkyard or modify it.

the chin spoiler will. the rear ducktail spoiler will not without modification. as far as suspension goes, as far as i understand, the cobra suspension will not change a whole lot for the car. i could be wrong and someone else can correct me if i am, but unless it has a handling package, as you could get on pretty much any model then, a cobra II suspension is a standard suspension found in all II's. i do think that the mach 1's had the handling package standard. again, i could be wrong....

Your right on, the Cobra was an appearance pakage, Mach I's came standard with the handling package.
