They are not bad engines. Its basically a tall deck 351 cleveland. Same engine family... 335 series. You would probably be better off getting a windsor for your car. 351m/400 motors all came with big block bellhousings which means you have to run a c-6 unless you found a early model 400. 77 model is definetly going to have the big bellhousing. you can make some really good power with a 400 but you can make the same amount with a windsor and parts are much easier to find.
