79 bumper on a 86 mustang

well i found a 79 mustang bumper but my car is an 86. i hit a ditch a broke my bumper. will an 79 bumper work on a 86 mustang im not sure if the molding is the same and will the molding line up with the 86 bumper molding

The molding is different & you need a 79-82 hood.

i didnt think the molding was different from 79 to 86 just 86 to 93 but ya you'll need a 79-82 hood also but the bumper will bolt up to everything correctly. 79's are wicked i think with the egg crate grill,you rarely see a 79-82 running around.

I can confirm, the molding is different as is the bumper support if i remember correctly...i remember switching mine but it may have been because the '79 was aluminum. Also yea the hood is different..and keep that in mind if you ever wanna get a cowl hood or something because i only know of one company that makes ANY hoods for the '79-82 bumpers and that's Maier Racing and they're like $400 for a pin on.
