I had a chance to service my differential today, and I've read in a few posts before that all GT's came with traction LOK, is that true? cuz when i spin one wheel, the other would go the opposite direction, does this just mean it needs more than the usual fluid change? but I didnt see any metal shaving and the fluid doesnt seem like it's that old.
Another thing, I have an 86 SVO rearend sitting in my garage, If I was to decide to put that thing on would it work? considering it's disc brakes, is there any thing I should be concerned about? I know i have to use a different MC,
prop valve, parking brake cable and convert to 5 lug.
Thanks!

all 8.8 mustangs come with trak lok. it is supposed to spin the opposite way.

make sure the svo rear is an 8.8 and it'll work. It may just be easier to swap all the svo brake hardware over to your rear.

I am not sure that all Mustang Gt's with 8.8 axles came with traction loks. There seem to be a number of opens around. If you have the cover off, it is easy to look and see, if you have the s spring in the middle and the clutches, its a traction lock. If not, it is an open. Also, you should be able to look at the axle tag, a TL unit has an L in the gear description, such as 2L73, for a 273 TL.

The disc brakes and axles from the SVO should bolt on. I would pull an axle from both and make sure that they are the same length first though.

the svo is a 7.5, dont bother it wont last nearly as long as an 8.8. disk brakes are a plus but not in that setup.

In fact, every Mustang (GT or LX!) with an 8.8" rear came with a Trac-Lok.

If one wheels spins the opposite of the other, it is an open or a totally trashed tracktion lock.

Or the torque input hasn't overcome the preload of the clutch pack or traction-aiding device and so the differential does what it is supposed to at these lower power inputs - differentiate.

so is that saying that I should get some kit instead of putting the SVO disc setup on my car?

trash the 7.5, but use the disc brakes off of it, they'll work just fine.

Don't forget you'll need a different master cylinder for that rear disc setup.

If you have the s spring and the tag reads "L" then you have a traction lok.
My guess would be a 2.73 to 1 ratio.

hllon4whls is right.. that is not good at all. Even my old rearend, which i found to have 0 friction material left on the clutches, both wheels would spin the same way when you turn them manually. Same goes for my freshly built rear..

If your tires spin opposite directions, i would assume it's got some issues. Chevy rear ends work like that though, wheels spin opposite as apposed to the same direction. Obviously a problem

You rprob have to rebuild the traction lock. It is very easy to do. As soon as you get the s clip out and the axels, the rest just falls apart almost. Goes together almost as easy
