How much hp/tq can the stock 8.8 rear end take without problems? Will it be ok around 320 rwhp and 320 rwtq?

The stock rear-end should handle those numbers. It's when you get past 350 rwhp that you should start thinking about beefing up the rear-end.

It has more to do with traction. More traction = more stress = bye bye stock differential. You could have 600whp, spin in one place, and the diff might be fine. Throw on some slicks, and it's a totally different story.

I think its just a crapshoot and you never know. There are bolt-on GT's who have managed to blow the rear end simply on Drag Radials at the track. Other guys run Et Streets every month and still have a stock rear end. You just never know but i would think without a power-adder and on Drag Radials you would be fine. Now start doing 5,000 rpm clutch drops with ET Streets and then you'll be towing your car home. You just never know but should prepare for the worst.
Look at it this way, at least we don't have to be afraid to run a Drag Radials or even catch traction on mostly stock cars like those 7.5" LS1's

Yea, it is a crap shoot. Like I said, back up money is nice so when it DOES blow, your not in trouble.

Hmm, well I wont be running drag radials, at least not anytime soon. I have a v6 that I am uprgrading to a 8.8 and putting a turbo on. Its an auto so hopefully that will reduce the shock to the rear a little.

If it blows I can live with putting in stronger parts, I just dont want to get into the realm where it will blow for sure without knowing ahead of time.

The 8.8 itself is plenty strong, it is even a popular upgrade for those off road guys who beat the crap out of their axles above most others in motorsports. Your weak links are your spline counts, should be 28 if memory serves me right. If you question the ability of the axle to take the abuse, upgrade to a AlloyUSA 31 spline axle set and spool it. There are plenty of 900+hp cars with that setup with tons of passes on them still running strong.
