8.8 to 9" or QC

Anyone done a 8.8 swap to a 9" rear or a quick change?

I figured with the 9" it's so much easier to have a removeable chunk so I can have two different gears setup and makes it real easy to remove. Plus, it's a lot easier to find people that can set them up around here as opposed to the 8.8. Easier to find 9" stuff too and cheaper since I'm in racing.

My other option was the quick change because it's so dang cool looking and the gears are easily swapped. Plus, since I'm in racing I already have some of the quick change gears I need. Some have said that the QC won't hold up to abuse of hard shifts and what not though.

Maybe, but weight isn't that much of an issue. This isn't a track queen, just a hot rod.

I have been looking into getting the Moser 9" kit for my stang, I dont think the differnce would be to big of a problem.

If you are doing it for strength then it's a waste as the 8.8 can be built to handle more power than just about anyone is going to be making on this site.

I agree, the 8.8 can take a ton of abuse when built right, and still lighter and tougher than a 9 inch.

Only thing I can think of is that some people break stock axles on DRs and they just figure they are crap kind of like the stock LS1 rear ends that are very weak. Good axles, welded axle tubes, diff cover and I've seen them go into the 8s with zero issues.

Yea the only thing else i want for my my rear is a good diff cover. I don't think i NEED to weld my axle tubes

I never said anything about strength. I wanted something that was EASIER to setup for gears and what not. I can find a built carrier for a 9" for about $300. How much would it cost me if I burned up the entire 8.8?

I wasnt referring to you man, just saying. I get what your saying. Yea it would be easier to just swap out the 3rd. The only thing that would get annoying is having to buy new rearend oil everytime i changed. Sorry i derailed a bit.

Don't have to buy new rear end oil. I've got my quick change oil pan from racing. I can recycle the oil
